Today we’d like to introduce you to JC Jones.
Hi JC, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, by way of my grandparent’s farm in Benton, Louisiana. During my senior year in high school, at the age of 17, I became a teenage father. I went on to graduate top 10 in my class and attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA majoring in biomedical engineering.
In 2009, under the advice of my college professor, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. I started by being featured in music videos for Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Keyshia Cole, Sean Kingston, and most recently Jhene Aiko’s “H.O.E. Life” featuring Future and Miguel.
I transitioned from music videos to acting and was featured on Fox TV’s “GLEE” and LOGO TV’s “DTLA: The Series.” While working in Beverly Hills I became friends Adrienne Maloof and our friendship flourished into mentorship & partnership, expanding my love for business and entrepreneurship.
In 2017 I released my single, “Work It” with rap legend, Trina, and soon after discovered my talent for photography.
Sine 2019 I’ve become the go-to for celebrities and influencers who need new visual content/branding and have worked with Vivica A. Fox, Claudia Jordan, Toya Bush-Harris, Malyasia Pargo, Monyetta. Shaw, Abigail Ratchford, Adrienne Maloof, and more!
In 2020, I moved to DFW and along with my partner, Nathaniel Holley, launched the FreeLux Project, a 501c3 non-profit, whose mission is ending LGBTQAI+ and HIV stigma.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference” -Robert Frost
The above quote describes my journey and it definitely has not been easy. From coming to terms with my sexuality, being a teenage dad, and dealing with the pitfalls of Hollywood/entertainment business my journey has had many twists and turns, but all of which have led me to where I am today.
Struggling with my sexuality made me more empathetic to others, and being a teenage dad motivated me to keep going through the pitfalls of “the business” and the “pitfalls” made me stronger, wiser, and hustle harder!
The culmination of my struggles gave me experience that I know use to help and motivate others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve become “Hollywood’s Biggest Secret!” When a celebrity or influencer needs to shut down social media with amazing content, I’m the one they call! I specialize in what I call “GLAM Photography” Not only do I capture the pictures, I creative direct and style, all before shaping and molding light to capture to true essence and personality of my clients. I’m involved in every aspect of each shoot!
I don’t just take pictures; I capture moments and to do authentically I challenge myself to lead with humility and vulnerability— it’s a dance of trust between me and my subject.
Aside from celebrities and influencers I also shoot everyday people, which I love to do the most. The feeling that I get when someone sees themselves like they’ve never seen themselves, or always wanted to see themselves is a fulfilling feeling I can’t describe.
This month, June, I will be releasing my second official single, “Out of My Mind.”
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have two: Be Myself and Keep Going
It seems that my world started to open up when I started to be myself, yet in order to do that I had to learn to love and accept myself.
I had to keep going like the old gospel song says and “see what the end will be.” I think about all the times I almost gave up and if I did, I wouldn’t have given a chance for the miracles to happen that have happened in my life.
