Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Gonzalez.
Hi Christian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I believe there’s 2 main reasons why people become barbers. one being through passion the other through financial desperation. For me, it was definitely a case of financial desperation which with time became a passion. I’ve been a barber since august of 2017. It started off as a “hustle”. In 2018 is when I grew an immense passion for the craft once I attended my first barber convention. Afterward, I went on to become more involved with the educational side of barbering. Investing a lot of time and money to learn and understand men’s grooming and hair as a whole. Feeling confident enough, I was able to teach my first class in 2019 alongside 2 of the most recognizable barbers in the industry (Byrd mena and Diego Elizarraras). Through the glory of God and hard work, a lot of doors have been able to open up for me. From being nominated top 5 in the men’s category for Behind the chair (the biggest hair award show) in 2019, to winning the award in 2021. That same year I was able to open SPRÜS my own hair studio, located in Addison Texas. That’s the place where I get to have full control on my creative freedom. Now I’m not only cutting hair but I’m also doing color and bringing a different style to Dallas and to the barber industry in general. I’ve been blessed to be feature in multiple issues of barberEVO magazine which is a global magazine for barbers in stylists. currently, I am working with Wahl professionals as part of their select team and also working as an educator for STMNT grooming company. Traveling and sharing the knowledge of the craft on a national level. And that’s how through financial desperation I was able to find what I love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe there’s always struggle when you’re trying to figure things out and that was my issue during my first year of cutting hair. I didn’t know there was more than just cutting hair behind the chair. I was going through doubts on whether I really wanted to continue cutting hair or not. What changed my mind was going to my first hair convention. Afterward, things were a lot smoother.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a barber/stylist. I specialize in creating art through hair. Whether it is from styling in an unconventional way or doing a creative color. I am known for creating art with hair and educating people on how to create art with hair. I am the most proud of the improvements I’ve been able to see in the students I teach and Winning the BTC one-shot hair awards. What sets me apart from the others is being able to teach something that looks extremely hard in the most simple and understandable way!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love working with other artists within the industry. I am open for collaborations whether is me doing the cut and style and someone else doing the color or vice versa. Social media has given me a huge support system also.
