Today we’d like to introduce you to Danette Wicker.
Danette, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My business started out of a need and grief. My mother had Stage 4 Breast Cancer and died when she was 47 years old. During her treatment, she was introduced to massage, aromatherapy, meditation, and alternative therapies. After she died, I went to massage school with the goal in mind of providing affordable spa services with flexible schedules, so that working, blue-collar clients could afford to make their health a priority, and I have been doing just that since 2003.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been full of twists and turns and detours. The biggest struggle of a small business is customers and inventory. It is a constant fight to balance your cash flow, inventory and customers. We try to be a 1 Stop Shop for our clients that choose to shop our small business.
We have to constantly stay on top of retail gift trends and offer unique gift lines to our shoppers. It is ever evolving and we have to be game changers in our small business. I attend Dallas Market Center for every market, take every business, marketing class offered and read all trade publications to grow outside of my comfort goals.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Danette’s Urban Oasis – what should we know?
I am at my core, a bodyworker. I love providing massages, Waterless Pedicure and Manicure Services and offering Services starting at $30. I am most proud of the fact that once a person decides that they want to make their health a priority, our prices and accessibility, makes it possible for them to get Services at our salon and boutique. I am most proud of the makeup of our small business, it is truly, family owned. My husband, Alphas Wicker is the glue that holds DUO together and our son helps out as well. The uniqueness of our small business is that we are essentially 2 businesses in 1. The boutique part of our business offers unique gifts for entertaining, indoors and outdoors and gifts for Adults Only. The spa side of the business, offers Non-Toxic, Safe, Waterless Pedicure and Manicure Services that are affordably priced. Offering services by appointment only, ensures privacy and total relaxation.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The ability to hold on to our vision and our faith in God, each other and our shared goals. We are always looking to grow and expand our small business and to continually sow seeds in our community.

I have been going to Danette since a coworker introduced me to her about 4 years ago. I take advantage of her great massages as well as the waterless pedicures. The waterless pedicure is relaxing. Danette always gives an extraordinary experience to each of her services. She also is there for whatever occasion you need a gift.
