Life & Work with Erica White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica White.

Hi Erica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always enjoyed doing hair, I was given the opportunity through my high school to experience working in a salon. I was able to service clients throughout high school including friends and family. My hands-on practice started with braiding. It was from that experience that I strongly desired becoming  a hairstylist. As I continue my journey on this path, I desire to leave a legacy for my sons. I’ve had many challenges in my life leading to having to start over. However, my boys have always been my inspiration and motivation to achieve success. I believe that showing them what it takes to succeed is a life experience of learning. Because my sons Eric Jr. and Emarion tend to be very observant and asks a lot of questions when they see challenges occur. I’ve had to remain calm and strong amid my many challenges,  you learn early in life that anything worth having comes with a cost. I’ve found that the best approach for me is to lead by setting an example for my sons. Because my sons have observed me through my many struggles, I have become a role model and example before them. My sons have learned that hard work and determination is an important key to success. And, that they can do anything they set their minds too and become whatever they choose to be. Most of all, I believed the greatest impact I could have on their life is to model entrepreneurship. My sons are my motivation for stepping out in faith and starting my  salon business, Erica’s Dreads.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, I have experienced all the startup challenges and some obstacles seemed insurmountable . Truthfully there’s been many times when my circumstances made it look like quitting would be the best option. But determination kept me from quitting. Because I didn’t quit, I now have a thriving business. My advice to anyone who would desire to become an entrepreneur. “You should just believe in yourself and look to your supporters when in doubt.”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My salon Erica’s Dreads is in Arlington, Texas specializing in dreads. I believe the thing that sets me apart from all others is my ability to visualize hairstyles. I visualize the hairstyle that I believe would enhance the best qualities of the person’s face. Erica’s Dreads is not just a service for beauty but is also a service for good. We not only strive to provide the best quality of hairstyles, but we also strive to keep our costs at a moderate rate within the community. I would love to have you come to my salon for a quality of service that will change your life.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being humble, Courageous, and determined.
