Hi Eileen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Woke Soap was created by me in 2016, Eileen Backman (Starr) & it is help ran by my kids Osiris, Lyric, and my fiance Joelon Smith. I’m from South Dakota currently residing in Fort Worth Texas now! Most of my life I’ve been a cook or baker. I’ve always enjoyed being in the kitchen but I turned my love of cooking into my love of making soap!
I’m a dedicated #HPsoap #SoapMaker
Creating over 200 plus bars and always bringing new products to the shelves.
I started #WokeSoap #BuySoapNotDope back in 2017!

We are federally trademarked. 💪🏾❣️Our story is a long one but a strong one. I come from the dirt roads of Long Hollow SD. I come from addicted parents. I come from abandonment. I come from domestic violence. I come from never thinking I’d be worthy of much in life. To standing here at 39 years old, turning out 100s & 100s of bars of soap to customers all over the world, to also bringing awareness of issues in our melanated communities.
We stand ten toes firm with creating products that are chemical-free, nontoxic, earth-friendly, plastic-free and waking up our brothers and sisters to chemicals in our commercial everyday products we use.
Woke Soap is also very outspoken about being woke to the systemic injustices towards melanated ppl, as well as to the chemicals we are forced to use within our foods to products.
I strive hard to create every bar in small batches to ensure quality of each batch as well as the quality of every bar I put out.
We create custom batches of soap which ensures to tackle any skin issue you may have!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We’ve overcame homelessness, domestic violence before we even got to Texas. Our soap is what has kept us afloat every time. I’ve completely changed my life around because of one bar of soap!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are known for our outstanding soap and candles infused with good medicine and good vibes. Our soaps & candles are made with simple clean ingredients with unique names. Where I come from not much happens. I wanted to make a movement that woke people up to addiction. Buy Soap Not Dope became a thing for me because so many of our indigenous people have became addicted to meth.
Our movement has became an important one!
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I used to be a drug dealer. I got raided in 2019 and changed my entire life for the better. I decided to do soap full-time and never looked back!!!
This soap life has always been my calling it was honestly the best thing I ever did. Getting out the streets and into the kitchen to create saved my life.
