Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanique Hudson.
Hi Shanique, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating college, I started working for a technology-based marketing and sales company. I loved what I did but knew it was time for a change to leave my six-figure job to start my own business. I remember the moment so vividly because I knew I wasn’t happy anymore; I was about to turn 30 the following month and I had reached the highest level I could achieve at my current employer on the sales side. My options were to stay where I was or switch to the corporate side and make less than half of what I was making. In all honesty, I loved the company so much I was willing to take the salary cut to stay comfortable. That Monday the very position I was going to take, they announced they are getting rid of it altogether. So now that left me with the option of taking even lower money or leaving. One of my best friends and I sat down and really felt like it was now or never to figure out what the next chapter was going to look like. That Wednesday we booked a trip to Jamaica for the weekend. We left on Friday and came back on Monday with an executed plan. I put my house on the market that following Friday, it was sold by Sunday. I applied that day to real estate school! Once my house closed, I drove to Texas to finish my classes to become a realtor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Betting on yourself is the hardest decision I’ve ever made because if I fail the only person, I can blame is myself. This road was HARD. I know without I doubt I am where I am today because of God. It sounds cliché, but it is true. I moved to a city where I didn’t have an SOI, no social media, and I definitely wasn’t going to go door-knocking in this day and age. I went a whole year before selling my first house. There was a lot of prayers, tears, and self-doubt that year. I continued to do the exact things that my broker taught me and I have to tell you I am much happier. What do I want the world to know about me? I love a challenge! I will bet on myself every time because my determination isn’t going to let me quit. How that translates to my clients is I don’t care what the “market” says, if God gave you the ability to be qualified to buy right now, we are getting you a house. I don’t let the multiple offers or interest rates discourage them. What God has for you can’t be taken away by anyone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
One thing that sets me apart from others is I am willing to help anyone. I only ask one thing from all of my clients and that is commitment. I don’t care if you have $0 in the bank and a 430-credit score. I am determined to find you a home, but I can’t be more motivated than you are. The reality is, that life happens and it is going to keep happening so why not let us brainstorm together to come up with a plan for you to be in a better place. The first thing everyone says is “Oh, I am working on my credit” but how do you know what to work on if you’ve never spoken to a professional? You can be working on it for years and it goes nowhere, but insert me into the picture and now you scores are where they need to be in less than 6 months. I’m also very relatable to my clients. They know we can listen to Doms N Dungeons podcast or get brunch after church. With my brand, you know you are going to get outstanding customer service, and am truly a one-stop shop! I can assist you with everything from credit repair to my concierge team setting up your utilities once we close.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
It was a risk to quit my job, sell my house and leave Charlotte. It was a risk to quit my job that provided a consistent income to start a commission-only career. If you have a passion for something, the best advice I can give you is to just go after it. You’ll be much happier doing a career that you love and it is definitely worth the risk. It does not mean it is going to be easier…but the growing pains that you’ll grow through will make you a better person. to As hard as all of that is, I would bet on me every single time.
