Conversations with Jen Coker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Coker.

Hi Jen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m a personal trainer, group fitness coach, wife, and mom to 2 girls. My passion is helping others become a happy & healthier version of themselves. I believe in the power of consistency, accountability, and finding joy in the journey! I recently turned 40 and feel like I’m in the best shape of my life! I attribute that to being more intentional with all decisions in my life. My training, my nutrition, my relationships, my personal growth, my spiritual practices, my sleep/recovery have all been improved because I’m just more intentional with my actions. My goal is to inspire and motivate others to find a good balance and improve their overall health & fitness!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been an easy path. I was an established teacher & coach prior to moving to Texas. We moved here for my husband’s job and let me tell you… it was HARD. I didn’t know anyone, had a small baby at the time, and wasn’t sure where or what direction I wanted to go with my career. After a few months of living in Texas I decided to become certified as a personal trainer. I’ve worked at a few different places, but most of the people I train have been organic growth. I’ve had to start with zero clients and find a way to build a business. What I did & do is focus on building relationships. I want my clients to trust me, believe in what I’m teaching them, and enjoy their sessions. Then, the hope is that they will continue to want to work with me and eventually share with others. It’s not easy to grow a business on your own, but it’s worth it because I feel like the people I have met along the way were meant to walk into my life. They are all amazing and have taught me and helped me grow more than they know.

Fast forward to today…. One of my biggest struggles is Time! My days are extremely busy! Between all of my training & coaching, my personal workouts, my programming & planning, being a mom to 2 very busy girls, and finding time for family and friends it is very challenging. What I do, however, is make what’s important to me a priority. I’m not always motivated to get my workouts in or to meal prep or to focus on sleep & recovery, but it’s all about discipline! What I consistently do day in & day out…. I’m not perfect, but I’m progressing, learning, and growing and that’s what’s important!

What’s next?
My future plans are to continue working on myself and teaching and sharing my practices with others. Sharing is caring and I want to help improve the lives of as many people as possible! I’d love to be able to do more in the social media world so that I can impact more people on a bigger scale. My goal is to create a successful YouTube channel full of workouts, nutrition advice, and just a place to talk about being vulnerable in the health and fitness world. I’m hoping it will be beneficial to others, even if just a little bit. If I can help improve someone’s life in a positive way then I’m happy.
