Daily Inspiration: Meet Dakota Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakota Jimenez.

Hi Dakota, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved music. I studied Music and Business at the University of North Texas. I originally went to study guitar, but I ended up studying audio production instead. I learned to DJ in college but never thought I would be able to make a career out of it, so I put it on the back burner for a while. After graduation, I worked in a few recording studios in the DFW area and learned how to transfer my studio skills to live audio. After working shows for a few DJs, I realized that was the next step in my career. At the time I was working at a venue called Texas Live that was looking for DJs. I told them I was interested in DJing and after that, I began playing shows their multiple times a week. Since then, I have branched out to playing festivals, clubs, stadiums, and private events.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
COVID hit our industry really hard. I went from being booked several times a week to having no bookings for several months. Once shows started getting canceled I immediately switched to live streaming my shows from home several times a week. It helped me build wider fan base online while improving new live streaming, audio, and video skills that have also helped me since then.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for having high energy and running around a lot on stage during my shows. I also design my own visuals that are on display behind me during larger events. Another thing that I take pride in is playing different genres. I love playing EDM, Top 40, Hip-Hop, and Latin.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Consistent content creation and branding are huge for me. I have an amazing logo that my talented friend, Ronny Kim, designed. I include that logo on absolutely every piece of content I make. Lately, I have been utilizing Instagram Reels and TikTok to grow a fan base online and I make sure to include my logo at the end of each video to increase brand awareness. I have had several strangers recognize me on the streets because they said I look so much like my logo.
