Life & Work with Robyn Ivy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Ivy.

Hi Robyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve been drawing since pre-school, but I didn’t get into digital art until after college. Art has always been something I’ve wanted to pursue as a career, but it took a while to figure out which medium suited me best. For the past 10 years, I’ve been working as a Digital Artist, mainly using Illustrator, but over the past year, I got into abstract art, using pen, pencil, and acrylic paint.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was one who didn’t feel like it was a viable career path as a kid. I think I went into design for that reason- a career that would keep me creative. One of the issues I encountered was the way college made me think of art and design. I felt very boxed in, and it took a couple of years after graduating to find my voice and style outside of the box they wanted us to fit in.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialty is definitely realistic Digital Art. I have been trying to branch out from that though, as I’ve had multiple people think I just use filters to create the vibrant colors I use in my work. My favorite piece is definitely my latest piece of Maya Angelou, whose strength has long been an inspiration to me. I’m also really proud of the abstract style I’ve been developing over the past year, although I’m still experimenting with it.

What were you like growing up?
I was always very free-spirited and loving, I guess. I remember drawing a horse in pre-school and several kids gathering around asking for one of their own- and I drew one for almost all of them. Music has always been my greatest love, and you’ll see that in my work, a lot of the portraiture I do is of musicians.
