Today we’d like to introduce you to Sid Fleeks.
Hi Sid, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up considering myself “a child of the arts.” My passion for music, film, and writing helped mold who I am today. From singing and acting in plays as a child through my pre-teen years to facilitating pageants and events in my college years, up til now where I’m a full-time creative director, or multifaceted creative as I’d like to say.
I’m a true visionary; my mind is constantly flowing with fresh ideas to tell stories with the intention to connect with my community. I create a story and or an immersive experience through my photography, film, and music. I like to think of myself as someone who as the final puzzle piece to bring everything all together
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Coming from a natural high attending Florida A&M University, where I obtained my degree in Public Relations, I was on a roll getting entertainment gigs that aligned with where I saw myself in the years to come. Then in 2020, the year of my graduation, the pandemic came and put a halt to my dreams and any opportunities that were coming my way, including walking across a stage to claim what I worked so hard for over the previous years in my life.
This situation forced me to consume media way differently than before, and I saw immediate comparisons made from myself to others mainly because it seemed like a time where others were so motivated to create, and I was stuck, not knowing what or when to do anything. So, I ultimately settled for a corporate job that I never wanted, which put more pressure on me. I hated the transition because it was never a part of my goals, but I stuck it out as long as I could.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a creative director; I specialize in visual arts helping my clients achieve their goals utilizing my mind on how whatever they want to produce is being presented to general public. I’m most proud of a fashion campaign I did for a brand based in Washington, D.C., The Good Shepherd. This campaign reminds me that there is not limitation to my abilities and that I am more than capable of taking anything on that’s in front of me. I think what sets me apart from others is that I truly connect with my messaging behind whatever I produce; we all take our past experiences and into every aspect of life, and I take my own experiences to create a vision that the targeted audience would like to see from my clients, my PR background could also attribute to this, but ultimately I’m authentic, and my work is always in its truest form from the vision.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Anything that you are second-guessing that you know you are dying to do stop it now. It may be cliche to say, but truly only get 1 life; make it count. Everything will come back to you in full fold if you just believe and trust in your abilities
