Daily Inspiration: Meet David Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Brown.

Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I would say I have always been a creative and imaginative person. I loved tv shows and movies very much at a young age. It even got to the point where I would act out the scenes from the shows I really liked. Then when I was 11, I would write short little sketches to make with my camera. Early on in high school, I had decided I wanted to become an actor. Things changed majorly for me when my class called freshman connections, which shows kids the different kinds of departments in the school and help you decide what career you want to have in the future, took us on a tour to the audio video production classroom and I was memorized with the idea of making movies and tv shows. Jump forward to junior year in high school, and I enrolled myself in the class. I had a great first year and made about 4 short movies in that time frame; surprisingly enough, I was the director, editor, and even an actor in my own movies. I was basically a one-man show when it came to making movies, and it’s still pretty much that way to this day with my production company, impact films. I made 2 more short films my senior year in high school, and they showed how my quality of work and editing was getting better. Jumping to college, I did 4 years at Texas southern university, which has a great film program; it felt like one big happy family in the communications building. I graduated recently in December 2022, with a bachelor’s in radio television, and film. Since then, I have made two feature-length documentaries on mental health that I’m very proud of. One is about depression among black and minority college students, and the other is about ADHD and how it impacts the lives of African Americans with it, I also clear up many myths and misconceptions surrounding ADHD so people can be more informed and know that it is more serious than you may think. It is personal to me because I have ADHD and have overcame many obstacles even with it. My main focus now out of college is keep establishing myself, making connections in the industry, and getting more exposure with my films. I am submitting my work to many film festivals at the moment. I am also looking for and making distribution deals with companies. So, with all my hard work I’ve put in and my persistence and passion for filmmaking, I believe the best is yet to come, and my future is very bright.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road, but it wasn’t nothing I couldn’t handle, especially with God on my side. It was a very long journey to graduating and getting my degree, but the important part is that I’ve earned it, and it’s time to move forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an overall filmmaker. I am a director and editor mainly. I make all types of videos but especially short films and feature films. I am most proud of my recent projects, which were documentaries focused on African Americans’ mental health, one about depression among college students and the other about ADHD in black people. I think what sets me apart is my uniqueness, my innovative ideas, willingness to be different and to try different things, and my drive and ambition when it comes to filmmaking.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Just reach out to me. I have two Instagrams, which are @impact_films and @impact_films2, and I have a business page on Facebook which is called impact films. I am open to collaborating with people
