Today we’d like to introduce you to Tajanae Reddix.
Tajanae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been indulging in makeup ever since I could remember. From ripping out my eyelashes due to applying so much mascara at age 5, makeup has always been in my blood. I didn’t take makeup seriously until my senior year of college. I’m so passionate about making others feel beautiful about themselves not only on the outside but within. As I grew older, I realized the importance of self-confidence. Growing up, I saw women of all ages encounter features or flaws that they weren’t fond of, including myself. Seeing their faces upset always made me feel a different level of sympathy. I decided from that day that if I could brighten someone’s day, I could do so through my gifts and talents.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The main obstacles/challenges for me on this entrepreneurial journey have been time conflicts, scheduling, and knowing your worth. As an entrepreneur, life is so busy, yet your passion overrides everything. Making time for your passion is key as it could impact a person’s life positively. That also comes along with knowing your worth. Self-doubt can go hand and hand, but you can’t give up on your dream and have to remain encouraged.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My background consists of business knowledge and theory, which includes receiving a bachelor’s in management and master’s in business administration from The Alabama A&M University (Go Bulldogs!). I wanted to learn how to run and manage a business first before perfecting my craft. Now, I am a makeup artist specializing in neutral and natural glams. Currently, I am a professional in training enrolled in cosmetology school. I do all special occasions, from weddings, fashion shows and just everyday glam! My goal is to be international (destination weddings – FUN!) and to be a part of something bigger such as giving back to charities and the community. What sets me apart is that makeup is just the door to revealing confidence one has always had. It can lead to self-care and purpose. When you leave my chair, you will feel empowered.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
COVID-19 wasn’t as big of a hassle for me since I started my business in 2021. However, seeing examples of small businesses across the world gave me tips on how to endure a difficult situation. More than anything, I learned to prioritize my physical health just as important as my mental health.
