Conversations with Bella Poscente

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella Poscente.

Bella Poscente

Hi Bella, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m a Texas native, born and bred in Dallas. My journey began at a small private school, St. John’s Episcopal School, and later I pursued my passion for Film and Dance at Booker T. Washington, the renowned Arts Magnet school. Fueling my artistic ambitions, I continued my education at the University of Colorado Boulder and Prague’s prestigious film school, FAMU. Recently, I graduated with a BA in Film production, with minors in business and dance. Currently, I’m the director of Poscente Productions, where I’m in production for my directorial debut, “In My Father’s Footsteps.” This documentary is a time-travel adventure spanning three continents as I follow the trail of my father’s 1982 to 1983 solo world trip. Through my eyes, you’ll witness the world’s changes and constants over the last 40 years, and you’ll join me in the discovery of my father from a new perspective.

In this documentary, I delve deep into the theme of connection, particularly my generation’s dance with the ever-evolving tech era. It’s an exploration of how we’ve changed in the face of progress, with daring inquiries into whether this advancement has truly elevated our humanity. Ultimately, the film is about weaving a tighter global fabric, where we foster unity and elevate our capacities to connect, communicate, and genuinely look out for each other.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life presents its fair share of obstacles and challenges, yet I often find myself embodying a sense of fortunate optimism. Even when situations might appear more challenging to some, I have a gift for uncovering the silver linings. Whether it meant enduring kidney stones at the ripe age of 7 or navigating the complexities of directing a film set in the Czech Republic, I’ve mastered the skill of finding the bright side. My secret weapon in overcoming most of life’s hurdles is staying rooted in the present and cultivating mindfulness through the practice of meditation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a documentary director, I find deep fulfillment in the art of connection through storytelling. Currently, I am working on “In My Father’s Footsteps,” which holds a special place in my heart. As previously mentioned, this film retraces my father’s solo journey around the world, offering a renewed perspective on the bonds of father and daughter, the spirit of exploration, and the profound beauty of human connection. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to direct both narratives and documentaries, some of which have received recognition and awards at film festivals worldwide.

Beyond my role as a director, my background in dance significantly enhances my creative vision. With a foundation in professional training, I have the ability to choreograph scenes with precision, perceive rhythm intricacies during post-production, and genuinely connect with actors and interviewees.

I am always grateful for the opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts of filmmaking. If you are interested in connecting, please feel free to reach out to me!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
One of the things I love about Dallas is the vibrant art scene. Dallas has a great community of art enthusiasts who genuinely support and contribute to the arts. Whenever I’m in Dallas, I’m always around creatives! As for the less thrilling aspect, I have to admit that dealing with the heat can be quite the challenge.
