Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquisha Missouri.
Hi Jaquisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started baking when I was 8 years old. I always watched my grandmother, Karen, bake. She makes the best lemon cake! Growing up she would always have dessert at her house; cookies, cake, pie; it just inspired me to bake. Around 12, I would just play around in the kitchen, baking, trying new things. I didn’t take it serious, until after I had my son in 2019. I was a single mother struggling at first, so I decided to turn my talent into money. I lived in California before I moved to Texas. I started a small business called, “CupcakeKakes in 2020. Here we are, 2023 and I’m still going. Everyone back home loved my cupcakes; I would always post pop-up flyers, so people could place orders randomly during the week, even day sales! My goal is to own a mini baking truck or van and sale my cupcakes. I feel like with more time and more effort put in; I could definitely be a success with my baking skills.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It been a smooth road thus far. A few hiccups here and there. I would be upset if I post and no one would buy, but it also made me step it up a tad.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am certified in NA, CNA, as well as MA; right now I am a server downtown at one of the most popular restaurants, Bubba Gump Shrimp.
I am in the process of transferring licenses from CA to TX so I can get started with nursing.
I am most proud of my customer service skills. It takes a lot of courage to talk to people, especially about things you want to sale.
I’m different from others because I am me. I know for a fact no one can ever take me from me.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was full of life. I had tons of friends; we would dance run track, I was a cheerleader. I also played basketball on my spare time.
I was a good girl with a bad attitude that always got me in trouble. I was always in trouble at home but never outside of my home. I was a straight-A student, always good in school.
