Today we’d like to introduce you to Bitter Darlings.
Hi Bitter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My artistic journey began as a form of therapy. I believe there is beauty in pain, and with that, you can always start over and began new, positive, and happy life experiences from difficult times. I call my paintings “Bitter Darlings ®” because they radiate whimsical, messy versions of perfectly imperfect beauty and capture how dynamic we are in a way that oftentimes cannot be adequately described with words.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am constantly challenging myself and my artistry. Being an artist in itself is a very vulnerable act, and I’ve gotten to where I am today by the love, support, collaborations, and encouragement from family, friends, and art lovers. One of the many obstacles I face is how costly applying to various art shows can be. The submission fees get pretty expensive which is discouraging, but I am looking forward to doing a solo exhibit hopefully in the near future. I pride myself on the importance of believing in oneself and positive energy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a self-taught artist and go by the name Bitter Darlings. My paintings highlight the importance of inclusivity, equality, and our own unique being. I don’t think there is anything more definitive of beauty than acceptance and understanding. I find that very intriguing. My goal as an artist is to celebrate and represent women through my art, women who get up and get it done, live life to the fullest, and crave wonder and grace, all while giving back and making a difference. Bitter Darlings is rooted in a quest to constantly improve in meaningful and measurable ways. I painted my first mural this year and started an activewear line that infuses my art, driven by my fitness journey in hopes to inspire others to live a healthy and stylish lifestyle. Self-care is important. Bitter Darlings activewear collection aims to empower you to prioritize your wellbeing, make you feel confident and stylish and take care of yourself, both physically and mentally. One of my purposes is to find beauty everywhere, to romanticize my existence, and create art from chaos. It is my hope that Bitter Darlings encourages confidence, fearlessness, and self-love.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I feel the most successful when I am the happiest and healthiest. My daughters are proud of me, my family supports and encourages me, and I love my life; to me that’s success. By purchasing Bitter Darlings, you’re helping to support and empower women.
