Today we’d like to introduce you to Al Fleming II.
Hi Al, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
On social media I go by the moniker, “The Blazer King”. I am a digital content creator and Men’s fashion influencer. My story originates here in Dallas, specifically DeSoto. It was during my time at DeSoto High School (Go Eagles!) where I really hit my stride with fashion. With time and age my taste in fashion evolved to where it is today.
In 2022, I decided to make a pivot. I created a clothing brand a few years prior that did relatively well but only served a smaller niche of the consumer base. I also felt that I had hit a ceiling in reference to the growth potential of the brand. With my next endeavor I wanted to educate and entertain versus selling a particular product. Understanding the power of social media post-Covid and its ability to build and grow personal brands, I devoted my time to developing a space via social media where others could go for advice, ideas, and inspiration as it relates to men’s fashion, @iamtheblazerking (Instagram, Tiktok).
Identifying a gap in the men’s fashion landscape, I set out to dispel outdated notions of “how to dress” and inject a fresh, original perspective. Since March 2023, I have been consistently delivering weekly content to inform, entertain, and add value to a growing community interested in men’s fashion. Collaborating with brands I personally endorse, I strive to bring awareness to quality products within my expanding social media sphere.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle during this journey occurred on December 12th of 2023. I underwent an unexpected emergency surgery due to a detached retina in my left eye, which impaired my vision. Obviously, as a content creator, your “vision” plays an extremely important part in the creation process. Though I still have not fully recovered from the surgery, hence the reason for me wearing shades in all of my content since the incident, it was my desire to continue to build this community and platform that acted as a driving force in my road to recovery.
In regards to the content, the biggest obstacle that I had to overcome was identifying the content my audience wants me to produce versus the content I personally want to produce. Sometimes these two concepts do not align and as the creator it is your responsibility to find the balance that satisfies both parties.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My platform, The Blazer King (@iamtheblazerking), specializes in providing educational and entertaining content related to every aspect of men’s fashion through the use of VFX or visual effects. The platform also services various clothing and lifestyle brands through collaborations and partnerships. One of my goals for 2024 is to do more collaboration content with both brands and like-minded influencers.
What sets my content apart from others in the space are the edits and transitions used in the creation process. I try to implement techniques that are outside of the box to keep my community intrigued and engaged with the platform. My main goal is to educate, and every piece of content is centered on giving an informative and entertaining perspective related to men’s fashion.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People would be surprised at the amount of time that is dedicated to building a social media brand or platform. Conquering social media is not an easy task; I’m personally still learning but enjoy the challenge. One 30 second video can take 2 hours to shoot and another hour to edit. This doesn’t included preparation and the brainstorming process.
My goal with every piece of content is to produce at the highest quality possible and strive to top my previous efforts. I would label myself as a Perfectionist, which probably adds to the time I spend on each individual project.
