Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Moran and Wendy Macias

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Moran and Wendy Macias. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Amanda Moran, Wendy Macias

Our owners, Amanda and Wendy, have been friends since they were 12 and 14 years old. Amanda went to Cosmetology School right out of high school and encouraged Wendy to do that same not long after. They worked side by side for years, and in 2020, the economic repercussions of the market from the pandemic created an opportunity for them to realize the dream of opening a salon space of their own.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although it has been an amazing journey, there was an initial, unexpected struggle to balance a full clientele and the construction and business obligations of opening a salon simultaneously. The pivotal factor in the establishment of DUO Salon was that we are actually a family-owned business with three business owners/partners: Amanda and Wendy, who are the Lead Hairstylists and the faces of DUO, and Maria, who spearheads business operations and was able to see the buildout through to completion while Wendy and Amanda made sure there was a seamless transition for our clients from the old space into the new.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a luxury hair salon that provides a high-end experience where we celebrate diversity within a comfortable, welcoming space for everyone. We believe that beauty knows no boundaries and that every person deserves to be pampered and empowered regardless of their background, identity, or hair texture. We pride ourselves on fostering an environment for our internal clients (our stylists) that seeds collaboration, education, and mentorship. Our stylist team are all individual specialists in their own niche, including curls, color, extensions, and nail art.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We like that our city is growing and people from other areas of the country have been attracted to come to our metroplex and are adding flavor to the culture of Dallas.

We are least excited about the flat topography of our city. There is so much to do in Dallas, but to have scenic views along with all that Dallas has to offer would be perfection!
