Hi Estefani, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Hi my name is Estefani Gutierrez, I’m a license cosmetologist in Dallas Texas . I started my journey as a hairstylist at the age of 20 years old. I been in the beauty industry for 10 years, and I know it wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth it. I knew this was something I will always love, enjoy, and have a passion for since I grew up watching my mom become a hairstylist herself. Once I was refresh out of beauty school, I had my mom who mentored and guided me through the salon and did her best to give me as much as her knowledge as she could. Now, we both work together at our salon located in Oak Cliff and have been in business for over 15 years now. I would take as many classes as I could to learn new techniques, I would travel to take balayage, color and hair cutting classes. Working long hours at the salon and not having so much free time, but I knew all those long hours were going to be worth it. Being consistent, eager and never giving up has made me get to where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always a smooth road being a single mom and having your own business. But having an amazing support system made everything run a lot smoother. It was difficult balancing being a full-time mom and having to work long hours at the salon.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in haircuts, Brazilian blowouts, color, foilyage and balayage services. A Brazilian blow outs is a semi-permanent hair-smoothing treatment that smoothes out your hair by sealing in a special keratin solution. A balayage is a technique of free-hand painting highlights on the hair, creating a soft and natural lightness towards the ends. And a foilayge creates the sun-kissed, natural-looking effect of a balayage, but adding foils which gives a little more brilliance and brightness. I’m most proud of all the accomplishments and improvements I have made since I started my career as a hairstylist. I truly enjoy making clients feel beautiful and appreciate every single person who has been able to sit in my chair and go through this beautiful journey with me.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people might not know about me is I was born in California but moved to Texas at very young age. Once we moved to Texas, that’s when my mom pursued her career in the beauty industry. A couple of years later she decided to open up her own hair salon. I always remember being there at the salon after school and every weekend. And I truly enjoyed helping her as much as I could, even it meant sweeping and washing and folding towels at the salon. Growing up seeing how happy and beautiful clients looked after leaving the salon was something I enjoy seeing. That’s when I knew I was going to have a passion for the beauty industry.
