Artist of the Day: Arash Motian

Today’s Artist of the Day features an interview with Arash Motian. Please find our conversation below.

We’re always amazed and inspired by the creatives in the community and we’re so excited to have a chance to ask you some fun questions today. To start, can you bring our readers up to speed on you and your work?
I’ve been an artist for over 10 years, fine-tuning my craft and finding my purpose in it. As an immigrant to the United States, you see a lot of things that leave an impression on you. I was introduced to Hip Hop around 2003, watching battle raps in school while I was picking up on English. I wasn’t able to speak, so rapping seemed like a superpower at that time. So i made it my goal to make it in music and become one of most respected Persian rappers in the world. Although I say “Persian Rapper”, I don’t just make music for my own people, I have a worldly view and I express that through my music.

Who (or what) has your work been inspired by? Do you hope your work inspires others? If so, what message do you want them to be inspired by?
I am influenced by many of the greats, including Eminem, Tech N9ne, DMX, NF, Lloyd Banks, KRS-One, but also a fan of other genres. I used to listen to System of a Down, which is quite different from the music I make. I hope my music helps people through tough times; like any other artist, it’s the impact of the music that we seek. I want that foreign exchange student who has no friends to be able to jam out to my music and not feel alone and feel empowered instead.
