Hidden Gems: Meet Samantha Calatozzo Cobb of Pearl Creative Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Calatozzo Cobb

Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Dallas, went to undergrad in Nashville, interned at Disneyworld in Florida, and moved back to Dallas in 2016. Since then I have fallen in love with the Dallas theater community all over again. It has its flaws, but it also has so many passionate artists working to improve it. I found myself wanting to join that coalition in my own way.

I have performed and directed professionally for as long as I have worked for non-profits and corporations doing digital marketing. I wanted to find a way to marry those two worlds so that I could utilize the skills I have from my MBA from Southern Methodist University, and apply them to improve creative businesses in Dallas. I feel so fortunate to have found a way to serve artists in DFW in this way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone who was working in 2020 can say they have had a “smooth road”-I was actually supposed to get married in May of 2020. I found myself cooped up in my apartment, missing the arts desperately, and struggling to cope with having to cancel a wedding I’d spent over a year planning while working full time AND working on my MBA on weekends and evenings.

(I do realize that I was immensely privileged to only have an hours reduction at work and to have overall maintained my health. My heart goes out to those who had it far worse than I.)

I realized that I had many artistic friends across the country who were also being kept from their passion, and for many, their livelihood. The short version of the story is I was able to found Plague Mask Players, a growing theater company in Dallas, alongside some really brilliant friends. In founding this company, I was able to apply my marketing skills to theater for the first time. I taught myself to build websites, utilized my background in paid media and strategy from work, learned graphic design, and a bolstered myriad of other skills to be able to help my own business. We grew so rapidly that we soon had 5k+ Instagram followers (which is more than most companies in DFW).

This was the catalyst for me seeing how much I loved applying my corporate job skills to the industry I cared so deeply for. Since then I’ve worked with over a dozen theater companies, creatives, actors, directors, and more in DFW to help them sell out shows, build websites, and establish strong brands.

(And I ended up eloping in May of 2020 and have been very happily married since)

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our mission is to support creatives doing what they do best by providing industry-defying discounted digital marketing and web development services. While we fully believe that not every passion or artistic pursuit needs to be commodified, when you do choose to take that step, we’re here to help! We’ve helped artists, creatives, and small business owners grow their brand awareness, ticket sales, and revenue across DFW.

Practically speaking, our services include web development, event marketing, paid media, branding, graphic design, digital marketing, and more!

What sets us apart is that we are a business for creatives run by creatives. Everyone on our team has been a working actor/director for just as long as we’ve been honing our business skills. That means we have a deep understanding of the Dallas theater-goer and creative customer. We know the challenges, and trends, and are here to support with our expertise.

You’ll have seen our work with: Plague Mask Players, Prism Movement Theater, Theatre Frisco, MusicalWriters.com, Urban ArtsCo, Pegasus Theatre, Camp Death, DFW Center Stage, The Folding Chairs Comedy Troupe, & More!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We have a ‘Starving Artist Package’ for most services! An eternal struggle is that you can’t make money until you have good marketing, but you can’t have good marketing until you make money. For that reason, we designed this package that offers even deeper discounts for websites, event marketing and more.

We’ve been fortunate enough to work with notable theaters, actors, directors, and more with this package.

Pricing:

  • We formulate our pricing based around our clients budgets. They come to us with a budget and strategic goals, then we help them figure out how to best utilize that amount for maximum results.
  • We also offer flexible financing with 0% interest on larger projects.
