Meet Ruben Teran of Mexico and USA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben Teran.

Ruben Teran

Hi Ruben, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Ruben Teran, an architect from Mexico. Five years ago, I founded an architecture and interior design firm with my business partner, Alejandro Garza. Initially, we focused locally on our hometown, Monterrey, Mexico. Gradually, we left a mark on each client through our designs.

The pandemic brought a 360-degree shift, opening the door for clients from other cities to hire us. Additionally, the pandemic made people return to their homes and realize that their spaces did not meet their needs or represent their personalities.

Since 2020, we’ve grown exponentially. In 2022, we reached the American market, starting with a project currently underway in The Woodlands, Houston. Following that, we had the opportunity to design an apartment in the Upper East Side of NYC. This year, we reached Dallas with a project in the iconic Museum Tower of Dallas.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Probably the biggest challenge was creating reliable credibility in an industry where the investment of time and money can be very significant. We started this company at a very young age (27 years old), and many clients initially doubted us upon learning our ages because our exposure comes directly from our projects, which, thanks to a great team and lots of talent, have a high level of maturity and quality.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
A big part of what I love about this industry is being able to tell a story through the design of spaces. Representing the story, tastes, and lifestyle of each client is priceless. In an era where design is overly globalized, it is increasingly necessary to personalize the design processes for each client. This ensures that the result is unique and does not seem to be generated by common processes that lose their essence over time or, as people often say, “go out of style.”

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That design is fueled by passion and communication with the client to represent the space as the client imagines it.
