Hi Tanya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was struggling pretty hard with post partum depression and was looking for something to help me find myself again. I have been out of the workforce for a significant amount of time but have an entrepreneurial background. I initially wanted to launch a cannabis edible brand in California but since I live here in Texas, I decided the best decision for me would be to launch my brand here. I learned about the consumable hemp laws and focused on creating a superb gummy that could be available not only in Texas but to most of the United States. I have a strong belief in the healing capabilities of the cannabis. What most people don’t know is that the hemp plant is as much a cannabis plant as is the marijuana plant. Hemp provides the same type of cannabinoids that work with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system. The most common hemp cannabinoid is CBD but many others provide desired effects when consumed. I also wanted to include a functional mushroom supplement in one of my gummies in order to create a specific synergy that isn’t widely found in cannabis edibles.
I wanted to create a brand that not only promotes the use of alternative substances to medication and alcohol but also promotes having balance in life and making self-care a priority, no matter what that looks like for each individual.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a very bumpy road! It started with lots of great ideas but I’ve had to go back to the drawing board multiple times, from packaging designs, finding quality ingredients, legal processes and not to mention I am in an industry that is ever-changing and often filled with people who are not honest or lack integrity. Being a woman in a male-dominated industry is very tough as well. I also only produce in small batches to keep my products higher quality instead of mass-produced which equals to higher costs.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kandy Coated is a cannabis brand that specializes in gummies for everyday life. All the business grows I plan to come out with more unique products. Right now I am releasing a CBD body butter and bath salt that is made from a Texas native with all natural ingredients.

What makes you happy?
Growing as a person and learning from my mistakes make me happy. To look back on who I was back then and see myself now gives me such joy. The ability to change and grow is a gift as a human being. We need to remember that we are never stuck and that as long as there is breath in our lungs, the opportunity for happiness is still there. It is hard to envision yourself at the end of the rainbow sometimes. Having the chance to continually learn and grow is what brings me peace of mind even when I’m waist deep in an undesirable situation.
