Hidden Gems: Meet Lance Lynch of LW Lynch Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Lynch

Hi Lance, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a paramedic by trade… I started in the 911 service in 2004 and, after years of responding to 911 calls – and teaching students to do the same – I moved into the hospital side of the house, preparing healthcare organizations for disasters (like COVID, IT disruptions, etc.).

I started taking pictures when we learned that we were expecting a (now 9-year-old) little girl… Since we didn’t have any discretionary income to pay photographers, I felt compelled to learn so that I could capture as much of her childhood as I could. I developed an eye and skill for it quickly, but haven’t had the flexibility to offer services to the public until the past year or so.

After COVID burned me out of the hospital industry, I transitioned into a fully-remote software position… The private sector doesn’t really fill my proverbial cup, BUT, it offers me the flexibility to lean into my passion.

I view my current niche as continuing to preserve life – but in a slightly different way than I did earlier in my career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My career has been anything but smooth… Lots of learning (the hard way), lots of stress, lots of 36-to-60-hour sleeplessness stretches on the ambulance.

Since we didn’t earn much (EMS workers are tremendously under-paid; I started at about $6.00/hour in 2004), I worked a LOT of hours… Usually 100-120 hours/week. My wife was a full-time student for the first several years of our marriage; we married early, grew up quickly, and figured out how to make life work.

In addition to ‘work’, we both leaned into higher education. I’ve earned several degrees, including an MBA; she holds a couple of Bachelors’ degrees in Education and Nursing.

Toss in a couple of cross-country moves, our (lovely) daughter, and mental stressors of our work life, and we’ve learned a lot of hard lessons… we’ve also developed a lens that allows us to view life differently than most.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
LW Lynch Photography focuses on capturing life, as experienced. We specialize in real, candid interactions, events, milestones, as well as small business branding and professionals’ needs.

We also endeavor to ‘be who we needed’… In addition to offering stunning imagery at fair prices for couples, families, and businesses, a large part of our offerings in 2025 will involve teaching others who want to capture images for their families – which is what got us started a decade ago.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
With the level of work LW Lynch Photo provides, I find that most are surprised to note that I’m not a ‘full-time’ photographer – I’m a corporate MBA with nearly 20 years of experience who simply loves helping my clients freeze their favorite moments in time. In addition to all of the ‘work’ accolades and experience I’ve built, I also fancy myself a bbq snob and weekend pit master.
