Life & Work with DeAlvia Hurd of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dealvia Hurd

DeAlvia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began as a shy girl with social anxiety who found solace in creativity. I’ve always had a passion for beauty and fashion, even as a child, which eventually led me to attend art school. For years, I admired my favorite content creators from afar, but I never imagined myself stepping into that space. Over time, I realized my love for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle experiences could inspire others who are introverted like me.

My friends were the first to give me the push to start creating content. I was always giving them fashion and beauty advice, as well as showing them the newest hotspots. They believed in my ability to share my perspective with a larger audience, and their encouragement gave me the confidence to get started.

Being in front of the camera has been a significant step in my growth. It’s helped me build confidence and embrace my journey as a content creator. Earlier this year, I took my first content creator workshop with Troyia Monay @troyiamonay , where I had the opportunity to network with a group of beautiful, supportive, and aspiring creators @wherebebe @_nikkimarielifecoaching @tarshia.deshae @tailoredsocials @withlovej.jones . This experience not only inspired me but also gave me the courage to start sharing more moments of my journey. started small, documenting moments in my life—whether it was transforming my look, discovering hidden gems in Dallas, or visiting brand activations like Glossier, Rabanne, and The Ordinary. Each of these collaborations validated my ability to bring value to brands while staying authentic to myself.

Today, I specialize in promoting Dallas experiences, lifestyle content, fashion and beauty products. I’m excited to continue documenting my growth and process as I develop my voice and style in this space as a current nano influencer. My deepest hope is to inspire fellow introverts to step into their own stories and share themselves with the world, because their unique light deserves to be seen and celebrated.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road—there have definitely been challenges along the way. As someone with social anxiety, putting myself out there in front of the camera and sharing my life publicly was intimidating at first. I struggled with doubts about how people who perceive me when getting to know me, if my voice would matter or be of importance if I went live on social media platforms, whether my content was “good enough” and worried about how it would be received.

One of the biggest challenges has been trying to keep my creativity in a box to match what’s aesthetically pleasing or popular among other creators. While I often want to explore and experiment, there’s the emotional letdown when something doesn’t go viral or reach the target audience I envisioned. This can sometimes lead to overthinking my own posts and falling into the trap of comparison, which can make it hard to feel confident in my ideas.

Another challenge has been learning to work with the resources I have. I don’t have a camera or the latest technology, so I’ve had to teach myself how to edit and create with what I have. It can be hard not to feel pressured to buy expensive equipment just to keep up in the space, but I’ve learned that creativity and authenticity matter more than tools.

Time management has also been a hurdle, especially balancing content creation with other responsibilities. Learning to plan, film, edit, and post consistently while maintaining my authenticity has been a big learning curve.

Despite these struggles, each challenge has taught me resilience and has helped me grow. It’s been a journey of stepping out of my comfort zone, building confidence, and learning to trust the process while staying true to myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a creative, I specialize in content creation focused on beauty, fashion, and lifestyle in Dallas. I’m honestly, known jokingly by friends as ‘The Pop Up Queen’ for showing up at brand activations. 😂

What sets me apart are the layers and dimensions of myself that I showcase on my page. I take my time to craft content that feels authentic and aligned with my best qualities, avoiding the urge to quickly upload content that doesn’t resonate with me. My editing style and storytelling play a significant role in what makes my work unique. I aim to tell full, cohesive stories—whether through captivating photography or engaging Instagram and TikTok stories. I’m constantly researching and experimenting with new creative approaches, exploring different ways to push my boundaries without limitations.

Another key element that distinguishes me is my focus on affordability. I aim to highlight simple luxuries—whether products, experiences, or events—that are accessible to a wider audience. In today’s economy, not everyone has the means to afford high-end luxury, so I strive to showcase quality options that are attainable and budget-friendly. I want my audience to know that they can have quality in their homes, on their bodies, and in their experiences, without the need for high-price tags.

What I’m most proud of is taking that first risk to step into content creation despite having social anxiety. It wasn’t easy, but I’ve learned to push through my mental hurdles and build resilience. Despite limited resources in this space, I’ve stayed committed, which has allowed me to grow and succeed. I hope to inspire others—especially 30-somethings and the younger generation—to pursue their dreams, believing that it only takes one step and consistent effort to achieve them. Don’t ever give up on yourself!

What matters most to you? Why?
Wow, there’s so much that really matters currently in my journey right now. What matters most to me is showing up in the creative space as a Black woman. I strive to highlight businesses, talents, and voices (even my own) because I believe that our experiences and creativity deserve to be seen, celebrated, and valued. It’s essential that Black creators are recognized and paid fairly, and that brands prioritize equal representation of Black voices in the content creation landscape. Not only does our dollar matter, but we matter in an entirety.

Our representation matters because it provides visibility and continuously opens doors for future generations. I’m passionate about creating a space where Black women can thrive, be celebrated for our multi-dimension, uniqueness, and have opportunities that are truly equitable. I hope that my work is drives a commitment to elevate and support other Black creatives, ensuring that our contributions are acknowledged, respected, and compensated fairly. I want to take the time to promote brands that reflect diversity and understand the value of inclusivity. People deserve to shop from those who truly see and value them, who understand the power of their dollar, and who create spaces that foster authenticity and connection.

Black mental health as a creator is equally important— remember that you deserve time to reset, heal, and experience joy. It’s essential to prioritize self-care, vulnerability, reflection, while embracing joy and any other feelings as part of our own personal journeys.

I’m also incredibly grateful for the supportive community I’ve found along the way. The network of women in the creator space in Dallas, who have uplifted and inspired me, holds a special place in my heart. You all, especially @wherebebe have been instrumental in providing a safe space, offering wisdom, and cheering me on behind the scenes. Each of you has made a lasting impact, and I’m so thankful for your support.
