Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Fujimoto
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making cooking videos in March of 2023. I was hesitant at first but ultimately I got the push I needed when I met my “cooking” hero. I got to be a part of one of his videos in March of 2023. After filming, we spoke for a while and I shared my desire to make videos. Without any hesitation, he told me to do it. A week later I filmed and posted my first video. From there, I just kept my head down and practiced my craft. I’ve always loved cooking, especially for friends and family. Making videos just became a way to do it more often.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy, in fact there’s not a single part of it that’s easy. It honestly took me for a surprise because when I started, I thought of it as “just an internet cooking video,” but it’s really so much more. One thing I try to do is make my videos more than just a catchy recipe video. I want my videos to tell stories and share parts of me. This has proven to be difficult; finding a balance and deciding what to share and how, are some broader challenges I face. One challenge I have everyday is work/life balance. When running your own business, it becomes difficult to allocate personal time when I know that if I’m not growing, neither is my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Ultimately, my “job” is making videos. I love food and cooking, but sharing that in the form of entertaining/informative videos is what I do. That said, there are an endless number of “cooking creators” out there, so really it’s nothing particularly unique. The thing that I focus on, that makes my content unique, is me. I make a conscious effort to share parts of my life, my personality, my interests, because I want to build a community. I’m proud of the community I’m a part of. They’re people like me. Not trained chefs, not professionals, just people who enjoy cooking.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
There are a lot of things that make me happy. I’m a fairly simple guy. A good bowl of noodles. A place that serves fried rice with no carrots or peas. But the thing that brings me the most joy, that I actively seek out, is doing things for people I care about.
