Check Out Rush Urschel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rush Urschel

Rush, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Floating.

To defy the mind’s eye and capture manifested imagination was enough to get me hooked. Photography unlocked doors without handles for me into worlds unseen; dream sequence images began to appear to me along my journey through the beginning of my education with a camera. These, yet-to-be-taken photographs would burn bonfires of desire to go explore and capture. The one image I have been seeking is that of a tribal-painted woman atop an elephant with the same markings. Her hands up in the air, holding ‘buddhi mudra’. (google this!). Other images came from my fascination with ‘levitation photography’, a method where you take two images on a tripod; one with the subject on a ladder pretending to float, a second photo with nothing at all in the scene. In photoshop, you layer the images, then remove the ladder to FLOAT!

I was handed a camera by my Grandfather at the turn of the ‘digital camera revolution’ at age 11, a simple fijifilm point-and-shoot that I would later take around the world. He would get our whole family together at the holidays for what seemed like hours… finally he would go “okay, one…two… oh its a video”. Man, we would get so frustrated, I had to learn to use one of these things to save our whole family.

This creativity bloomed fields and fields of wildflowers throughout the last 17 years of my life as a photographer.
I broke ground on my professional portfolio in Fayetteville Arkansas in the Ozark Mountains with a company called Fayettechill.

Every weekend we would dig deeper into the forrest with a team of models, creators, and directors to produce content for the brand.

I left college and moved into Adam Hats in Deep Ellum where I founded my business, Creative Perception. https://creativeperception.photography/
The creation of essential brand content for my clients was my specialty. the company consults small businesses and grows ideas from seed to fruit!

The music scene was always my calling; I found myself knee deep in life long friendships with ROCKSTARS I never would have imagined could be so kind. I began producing amateur recordings that turned into high quality demos for their Electronic Press Kit! this dawned a whole new face of my career: Riptide Records.
As a singer, instrumentalist, and a Disk Jockey, I founded a non-profit called Harmoney to interweave students with musicians. the company is based on trade! I donate a guitar, and I get enough Harmoney to pay for recording time. all this shifted my perspective on the center focus of my dream. Now, all I want to do is get record deals for my friends!

I have become a full EPK house producing: 1. studio mp3 demos 2. performance photos and videos 3. album art 4. publication reviews of the band!

My work has taken me around the world, and now I reside in Brooklyn, commuting to Dallas for big projects.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The pandemic devastated my whole life. I was kicked from my home in Adam Hats and crammed into the backhouse of an old east dallas home. I could no longer provide the studio quality consistency my portfolio offered, so i was unemployeed for quite some time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my process, I use something called Break the Rules Brainstorm. In this environment, we hypothetically play out each step of a journey to the next level. We must hypothetically break all the rules of the industry to succeed. This puts the client in the frame of mind of freedom and allows them to see clearer the path to their goal.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As far as risks go, I am a taker of them. I moved out alone into Deep Ellum by myself just to put myself in the environment of becoming great. This panned out into a whole life of friendship, work, and challenges. One must weigh the opportunity and assess whether the reward is lasting or just fleeting. There are some risks that involve physical danger, and you must rely on your integrity to prioritize your safety over joy.
