Inspiring Conversations with Stefani Robinson of Golden Hour Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefani Robinson

Hi Stefani , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I always loved self expression and was drawn to dressing for myself at a young age because of MTV. I fell in love with music and personal style and wanted to have a creative career. I found Toni & Guy in the 90’s in Dallas and it was life changing. The coolest of the cool. I was 14 and obsessed with Gwen Stefani. It was 98 and she has recently cut all her hair off into the cutest pixie, so naturally I wanted to do the same. I went to T&G and had the coolest experience beginning to end and I was hooked. I started working in salons at 18 as a receptionist. I couldn’t afford hair school at that time and my parents wanted me to pursue college. From 18 – 25 I worked in every type of salon before attending the Aveda Institue in NYC. I was 26 at the time. Being passionate, driven and determined paid off because I had an unbelievable school experience. I assisted in New York for a year before returning to Texas. March of 2025, will be 15 years as professional hairstylist. It’s been a wild ride to say the least.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Wanting to be a hairstylist instead of a receptionist – it was challenging being in that environment and not getting to do what I wanted but it paid off tremendously. Instilling foundational knowledge about how salons should and shouldn’t be run. I watched how top stylists made six figures and I learned the art of being a good employee and hairstylist. This made school easier as I was older and familiar with the industry. I’d say the hardest part was assisting in multiple states and figuring out where I excelled and where I needed to work harder. Hairstylists are moody and when I was younger, I didn’t have the thickest skin.

As you know, we’re big fans of Golden Hour Salon . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in dimensional color and balayage. I’ve had extensive training based in New York and LA for nearly my entire career. I create lived in color where it transitions from darker at the root to lighter at the ends ensuring a softer, lower maintenance grow out. I also love all shades of red, rooty brunettes and vivid fashion colors. In 2020 I picked up a razor and I’ve never looked back. I love cutting hair just as much as color. I’m passionate to a fault when it comes to hair. I teach you how to have great hair and maintain your color. You get my undivided attention at your appointment in a beautiful old restored house nestled in the cedars. I specialize in the art of you

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I don’t have any advice because everyone needs to write their own story. No one’s is right for success. And success looks different to everyone. Plus the industry has changed in every way since I became immersed in it in the 90’s. But, maybe one thing I will say, “Don’t SIGN anything”. And if your gut says this isn’t right, it’s time to move on. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for your peace.
