Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Queen Breezy.
Hi DJ Queen Breezy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always wanted to be a DJ since high school. My uncle was a DJ and used to put me on game, told me all the ins and outs, but I never took the time to really go for it. I grew up surrounded by music. My dad used to burn CDs all the time, and just being around him, I learned so much music beyond my years. I was on Napster and LimeWire heavy, making my own mixes and burning CDs for friends. People used to come to me asking for custom playlists, and I was always at Walmart the day my favorite artists dropped albums. I even used to record fire radio mixes on tape by putting paper in the bottom of the cassettes just so I could replay them later. Music was always in me.
But it wasn’t until February 2024 that I finally hit play. I was working as a hookah girl at a restaurant and lounge, and that night, I got a chance to hop on and press play “ON THE ONE.” Big shoutout to DJ Sic Vic because he’s the reason I officially started, trained, and became a DJ. That moment at X-Perience Restaurant and Cocktails changed everything for me.
Now I’ve been getting booked in Florida and Texas for private gigs, clubs, corporate events, and concerts, and it’s only the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, it really has been a smooth road by the grace of God. Things have aligned in such a beautiful way and I know it’s because of the work I’ve put in. From attending a DJ academy, training with DJ Sic Vic, investing in my own equipment, marketing myself, and staying consistent with networking, it’s all been part of the journey. S/o to DJ Jayy Clipp at Keep Spinning Academy for being part of that foundation and helping me level up.
The one thing I still struggle with is getting nervous before certain gigs, especially when it’s a new setting or something I’ve never done before. But even that, I’m learning to overcome. Once I get into the groove and feel the crowd, those nerves turn into excitement.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
’m gainfully employed and work a 9 to 5 as a project coordinator, but once I clock out, I step into my other role as a DJ. I DJ throughout the week and on weekends, and I’ve even had the opportunity to travel when I’m booked in Florida. I’m an open format DJ, but I specialize in R&B, old school, hip-hop, reggae, and a little afrobeats.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that I made this dream come true. I still can’t believe it sometimes. Less than a year in and I’ve already DJ’d private events, corporate events, concerts, and even a wedding. I’m proud of myself for showing up for me every single day, staying committed, and putting in the work.
What sets me apart is my creative branding and marketing. I still pass out business cards, network online, and document my journey in a real and authentic way and people are drawn to that. They see the passion and the hustle and they support it. I’m also known for creating a dope rhythm and vibe for each function, making sure the energy matches the moment. I’m not just playing music, I’m building something special.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Yes! I’ve had so many amazing people play a huge role in my success and the success of my business. First, my Uncle DJ Squirrell in Sanford, FL, who was a major influence early on and helped me find my love for music. My dad deserves a shoutout for always putting me onto good music and shaping my taste. DJ Sic Vic taught me everything I know and gave me the foundation to really step into this game. DJ Jayy Clipp at Keep Spinning Academy showed me everything there is to know about becoming a DJ and how to be a GOOD DJ.
The entire crew at X-Perience Restaurant and Cocktails has been so encouraging, always showing up for me. My partner, KJ, has been my MANager since day one. He’s never missed a beat and has supported me emotionally, physically, and mentally. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his unwavering support. He’s truly behind my operations and business, and I can’t thank him enough.
And of course, S/o to God! His favor is all over me. My family and friends have been extremely supportive, showing up every step of the way. I’m also lucky to have a community of DJs, from Florida to Texas, that I can rely on whenever I need anything.
