Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendria Jenkins.
Hi Kendria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Absolutely! My journey really started from a place of personal experience and deep reflection. As a woman, wife, mother, and sexual assault trauma survivor, I know firsthand what it feels like to be disconnected from your power, your sensuality, and your voice. For a long time, I balanced a corporate career while navigating healing in silence, and it wasn’t until I began embracing my story that I realized how many others needed space to do the same.
That realization sparked two missions: Pleasures by KMarie, which focuses on intimacy education and sexual wellness, and EmpowerED Outreach, my nonprofit dedicated to helping trauma survivors heal through workshops, community events, and empowering resources. Both were born from my own transformation—from pain to purpose.
What started as personal healing has evolved into a platform to inspire and serve others. Today, I’m proud to create safe, judgment-free spaces where individuals —especially women and families—can rebuild confidence, rediscover joy, and reconnect with who they truly are. Whether I’m leading a workshop, setting up an event, or connecting with a someone in need of encouragement, I know I’m walking in purpose. And I’m just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road—but every bump taught me something valuable.
Starting both a nonprofit and a business while raising a family, working full-time, and healing from trauma hasn’t been easy. There were moments when I questioned if I was doing too much or if anyone would truly see the vision. Financial limitations, burnout, and learning to navigate systems that weren’t always supportive of women—especially Black women—added to the challenge.
One of the biggest struggles was finding the courage to speak openly about topics people often shy away from, like trauma, sensuality, and empowerment. But I knew that if I stayed silent, I’d miss the opportunity to create real impact.
There were also growing pains—figuring out how to build a team, asking for support, learning about grant writing, marketing, and even overcoming imposter syndrome. But I’ve learned to lean on faith, community, and my “why.”
Every “no” pushed me closer to the right “yes,” and every hard day reminded me that my story—and the stories of those I serve—deserve to be heard and honored.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my professional career, I work as a small business underwriter in the insurance industry. What I do is all about assessing risks and helping businesses get the coverage they need to operate with confidence. I specialize in evaluating complex accounts and tailoring solutions that not only meet underwriting guidelines but also serve the unique needs of each business owner.
What makes my journey a little different is that I didn’t take the traditional route. I pursued this career without a bachelor’s degree or formal designation at the time—two things that often feel like unspoken barriers in this field. But I was determined. I worked my way up through grit, a willingness to learn, and the mindset that I could add value even without the “typical” credentials. Over the past 10+ years, I’ve gained a reputation for being thorough, resourceful, and solutions-focused. I’m proud of the fact that I didn’t let industry expectations define my path.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge business with heart. Whether I’m underwriting a policy or supporting a colleague, I bring authenticity, integrity, and a real understanding of people to the table. I’ve also become an advocate for others who are trying to break into this industry without the “perfect” resume. If I can make it, others can too—with the right guidance, mindset, and support.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Absolutely! I’m a big believer in feeding my mind and spirit with resources that uplift, stretch, and challenge me—both personally and professionally.
One book that truly shifted my mindset is “Fix Your Shift”—it’s helped me reset my focus and stay aligned with purpose, especially during seasons of transition. I also love “Boss Women Pray”—it’s like a prayer closet in a book. When I’m juggling motherhood, marriage, business, and leadership, that book helps ground me spiritually while still speaking to my ambition.
On Audible, I keep a few go-tos in rotation. “The Instant Millionaire” taught me to reframe how I think about wealth and worth, while “You Are a Badass” and “You Are a Badass at Making Money” always give me that motivational push when I’m doubting myself or taking a leap.
I recently started journaling through “100 Days of Believing Bigger”—and let me tell you, it’s a beautiful combination of faith, reflection, and vision-building. It’s helped me silence self-doubt and believe boldly in the calling I’ve been given.
