Meet Cody Parent of Farmers Market/Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Parent.

Hi Cody, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I spent most of my young adulthood at your typical 9-5 with United parcel service in the small city of Manchester in the small small state of New Hampshire from the ages of 20-30. I’ve always had hobbies that I’ve got vehemently enthralled in but in time proved to be that just hobbies. In my later 20s (we’ll call it 25-27ish) I had this draw this feeling of passion but having no direction in what to put it in. I felt this wave of wanting to sink myself into something but what was it? I met a very unique individual who altered my idea of what success or what I should be striving for actually is. This individual showed me examples of a photoshoot they had done with a photographer that blew me away. Photos? Photographer? I was hooked and have been since. Photography has itched every corner of my creative necessity since I picked up the camera and through the years developing my style of photography it proves more and more this was and is my calling all along. I love art and I love my art. I’ve since left that career to explore what photography really has for me here in Dallas and I’ve never been so full of inspiration. I am home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I mean I spent the best years of my 20s at a job (while a great paying job) that was sucking the soul out of me and I hadn’t a clue. But even when I found my passion it’s not like you can just pick up a camera, and there certainly isn’t much of a creative scene in little old NH. It took me a good while to learn photography to the capacity that I do and I’m still learning every single day. I’m self taught and I had not a clue of anything when I started so you can imagine how oblivious I was (still am). One thing I did learn fairly quickly was that if I wanted to take this passion anywhere, it wasn’t going to be in New Hampshire. Especially with the editorial style photography that I gravitate towards so I knew I had to move too. It’s been a lot of trials and imposter syndrome to get to where I am now and I still wake up daily questioning myself “what am I thinking, you can’t actually believe this is a viable career path”. But that burning passion won’t let me quit. I won’t let me quit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a creative editorial and brand photographer specializing in wide angles with sharp and vibrant colors. I’m most proud of my editing style and my compositions. I think what sets me apart is my incessant need for sharp detail, wide angles, and punchy colors grading. To me it’s not just another portrait that you see so often. It’s a piece of art that’s special to me.
