Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexander Lichner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Lichner.

Hi Alexander, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The circus is my home, my legacy and my salvation” – Alexander Lichner

My name is Alexander Lichner, I am 31 years old and I am a professional trapeze artist. I was born in Paris, France, but my blood and soul are Spanish. I am the fifth generation of a renowned family of circus artists in Spain.

My childhood was not easy. My parents separated when I was very young, and I grew up in an emotionally complex environment. However, it was in that chaos that I found my refuge: the circus. From the age of 15, when I debuted on the track, I knew that this art would be my way.

I learned everything on my own, observing, practising and falling over and over again. Each fall taught me to get up stronger. Over time, I have had the honour of receiving more than 27 international awards and two Guinness records. This year, I fulfilled one of my greatest dreams: to perform at the prestigious Monte Carlo International Circus Festival.

Currently, I live in the United States, where I collaborate with renowned circus companies. But beyond professional achievements, my greatest pride is my family. My wife and my daughter, Denise, are my engine and my inspiration. Denise, in addition, is an active part of my artistic projects, contributing her creativity and passion.

During the pandemic, we faced difficult times. The circus stopped, and we had to adapt. We work in the field, picking melons in Murcia, to get ahead. It was a hard stage, but it also strengthened us as a family and as artists.

Today I am also a circus teacher, and I am building with great dedication my career as artistic director of shows. My goal is to create scenic proposals that combine emotion, beauty, risk and elegance, taking care of every detail from technique to atmosphere.

My story is one of perseverance, passion and love for art. The circus saved me, gave me a purpose and taught me that, with effort and dedication, dreams can fly as high as one proposes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Reaching the top of my career as a trapeze artist has been a constant battle. Nothing was handed to me—I grew up without privileges, training on my own, without coaches or formal support. Every trick I mastered came through repetition, falls, physical pain, and relentless effort. While others rested, I kept practicing over and over until I achieved precision. This art doesn’t forgive mistakes: one wrong move in the air can cost you everything. But despite it all, I never stopped dreaming. Thanks to that perseverance, today I can proudly say I’ve performed in some of the greatest circuses around the world, on the most prestigious international stages, from America to Europe. Behind every show lies years of sacrifice, total dedication, and a passion that never fades.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a circus artist, specifically a trapeze artist. My craft involves performing acrobatics in the air, defying gravity, and creating beauty and risk with every movement. But what I am most proud of is having built my legacy through my own effort, when no one believed in me, when the path seemed uncertain. With sweat and tears, I’ve managed to reach where I am today.

What makes me different is my charisma and my love for my art. Every performance is a unique experience, where I don’t just execute my movements, but I feel each moment, fully immerse myself, and connect with the audience. I am proud to have one of the most beautiful jobs in the world, a job that not only allows me to express my passion but also gives me the opportunity to make others happy. While the audience watches, they forget their problems and are swept away by the emotion of the moment, living an intense and direct experience. That’s what motivates me the most: giving them a piece of happiness through my art.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
