Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Tran.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From a very young age, I was fascinated by teeth—an interest that never faded. In college, I pursued a degree in Anthropology and even focused one of my final thesis on the history of teeth whitening and society’s evolving perceptions of dental aesthetics. That intersection of cultural norms, manual precision, and the ability to make a meaningful, tangible difference in someone’s life ultimately led me to dentistry.
Early in my career, I worked in several dental practices, each with its own unique philosophy and approach to care. These experiences were invaluable, exposing me to a wide range of techniques and patient care models. They helped shape my own philosophy around comprehensive family dentistry.
Eventually, I felt a strong calling to build something of my own—an environment rooted in patient-first values and long-term relationships. In 2024, I had the privilege of acquiring Preston Meadow Family Dentistry from Dr. Denise McGrade, who had faithfully served the Plano community for over 30 years. I’m honored to carry forward that legacy while also incorporating innovation and modern techniques to provide the highest standard of care.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has certainly had its challenges—as any small business owner will tell you.
Running a dental practice requires wearing many hats. Beyond providing clinical care, there’s the ongoing responsibility of building a strong team, managing operations, and continuously improving the patient experience.
One of the early hurdles was facing skepticism from those who didn’t fully believe in my vision. That can be disheartening, but in hindsight, it was a valuable lesson in perseverance. It forced me to develop a strong sense of resolve and to surround myself with a team that truly believes in our mission. Once you find that core team, the day-to-day challenges become more manageable, and even energizing.
At the end of the day, what keeps me going is seeing the impact our work has—whether it’s helping a patient out of pain, restoring their ability to eat and speak comfortably, or giving them the confidence to smile again.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Preston Meadow Family Dentistry is a comprehensive, family-focused dental practice
based in Plano. Our mission is to improve overall health through personalized preventive care, education, and high-quality clinical services. We offer a full range of treatments—from routine cleanings and exams to restorative and cosmetic procedures like crowns, root canals, extractions, implants, and orthodontics.
What truly sets us apart is our team and the relationships we build with our patients. We take the time to listen and to make every person who walks through our doors feel seen, heard, and cared for. We don’t just treat teeth—we treat people. That approach has fostered a culture of trust, warmth, and genuine connection.
I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built within our practice. Our brand stands for compassionate care, clinical excellence, and a commitment to long-term relationships. We don’t take it lightly when patients trust us with their health—and we strive to honor that trust every single day.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Dentistry, like most healthcare professions, tends to be risk-averse by nature—because
patient safety always comes first. In clinical practice, managing and mitigating risk is part of every decision we make. For instance, if a tooth extraction presents a higher risk due to proximity to a nerve, I’ll refer the patient to an oral surgeon to ensure the best outcome. My priority is always the patient’s well-being.
That said, I’ve been more open to taking risks on the business side. When I took over Preston Meadow Family Dentistry, I rebranded the practice with a new name, look, and feel. That kind of change can be unsettling to patients who are used to something familiar, and it was a big leap. But I felt strongly that the changes reflected the future I envisioned for the practice. Thankfully, our patients embraced it, and the support we’ve received has been incredibly encouraging.
For me, risk is about thoughtful change—making sure it’s aligned with your values and vision, especially when it has the potential to make things better for the people you serve.
