Today we’d like to introduce you to Aromi Knox.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Austin, TX in a nearby suburb called Round Rock. After attending K-12th grade I moved up to Denton to pursue my Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in ESL and a few years after that I received my Masters in Educational Leadership and hold my Principal certification.
Right out of undergrad I was hired to teach in the North Dallas area. I’ll be going into my 13th year of teaching elementary school this Fall of 2025.
This summer, 2025 I sought out an exciting adventure and I’ve currently been living and teaching English in Thailand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an educator there are many challenges that arise, however with the support of amazing administration, committed parent involvement, and enjoyable teammates it’s easy to push through and overcome the hurdles in the profession.
Of course there are challenges with students, but over the years, I’ve learned to embrace each child as they come to me knowing they all have experiences and been exposed to different home dynamics. It’s not my job to change them, but to be sure they know in our classroom they are safe, loved, and encouraged to grow and learn.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the years of being in the eduction field I’ve realized I had put and found my full identify as “teacher” which isn’t a bad thing at all, but to truly explore and consider other gifts and talents I hold.
So along with being a first grade teacher I also have a photography business; photographybymahogany where I work with engaged couples, graduating seniors, milestone birthdays, maternity and group family photos. I love being able to capture the beauty and season of life for people so they can look back and have forever memories.
I also teach swim lessons in the North Dallas area during the summer time. I will travel to homes and teach in their backyard pools. I have a strong passion for water safety and ensuring children and adults can stay safe in bodies of water. Teaching swim lessons was my very first job at the age of 16 which also confirmed my desire to become a classroom teacher.
Something I’m most proud of in this season of my life is my courage to fly across the world and teach English to Thai students in Chonburi, Thailand. This experience has been so eye opening and has allowed me to step out of the comforts of my daily life in Texas. I love meeting and connecting with people so being able to form relationships on the other side of the world has been next level. I think that being an educator requires the teacher leader to continue their own love of learning and exploring. I can only share and teach as much as I’ve been exposed to and know myself. So this entire experience from traveling, working, and living in a completely different country and culture as been a huge educational lesson for me. I also am able to share my experiences with my social media community and give them a glimpse of what life really is like outside of America. My social media handle is Aromiii33 on IG and MissKnoxRocks on TikTok
One more major accomplishment of mine is my published Bible Study that I wrote over the book of Ephesians. It is available on Amazon.
This study was created and lead by me in my home back in 2020. During the COVID lockdown I wanted to stay connected with women, so I started leading Bible studies through my small group at my church. As I continued to lead these studies, I then created a nonprofit ministry called Righteously Redeemed. I hosted three conferences during the summers of 2021, 2022, and 2023. I have since then dissolved the organization, but I’ve kept my YouTube channel that inspired it all.
I release content filled with encouragement and relatable situations through interviews and solo sharing. I’m hopeful someday I’ll be able to create and host more events in an upcoming season of my life.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My mentors have mostly come into my life through my church community. I have a few older, wiser women in my life I can call or spend time with and they are able to speak life and give godly advice on how to navigate different situations.
