Conversations with Aubree-Anna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubree-Anna.

Hi Aubree-Anna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in San Antonio, TX, and adopted at 17 days old by my loving parents – MaryLynne, a pianist, and Dr. Steve Wilson, a retired Lt. Colonel in the Air Force. I was named after the song “Aubrey” by Bread and raised in a home filled with music, thanks to my mom. Her playing helped shape my pitch and tone and love for music.

Growing up, I was expressive and imaginative – pretending to be Dolly Parton while holding a vacuum as a mic. I was raised on everything from country to the American Songbook, and spent time living in Hawaii (where I learned to hula) and Alaska (where I wrote poetry and started painting). I also loved visiting my Nana in Washington, where I fell in love with homemade jam, rhubarb pie, and bingo nights.

My music journey began with school choirs, competitions, and theater. I attended Texas Military Institute (TMI), the same school George Strait’s son attended, and began singing everywhere, from living rooms to small venues. A judge once told me, “You’re a country singer—your voice was meant for this”, which stuck with me.

My first real opportunity came in Addison, TX, where I was invited to give a local band a break – but ended up becoming the main act. The venue grew popular fast, and I performed for crowds from all walks of life and Nationalities, and learned to sing in multiple languages. That time showed me how much I love connecting with people, and helped me embrace my identity.

This exposure led to performances at places like the Warwick Melrose Hotel’s Library Bar, which caught the attention of D Magazine. I soon landed on the cover of their National “Best of Big D” issue as “Best Lounge Singer,” and later was voted one of Dallas’s “Top Ten Most Beautiful Women”. I went on to receive a Hollywood F.A.M.E Star Award in 2016 and two music honors in 2018 from Producers Choice Honors. I also headlined at WinStar World Casino & Resort, and have had the opportunity to travel all over, and meet some amazing people along the way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road, but worth it. Building a music career has its ups and downs. I’m thankful for my supportive circle, especially my husband, who helped me get stage presence early on and navigate the business side.

We worked with various producers – some of whom were used to creating beats for rappers, not recording vocalists. Therefore, I had to learn how to produce my own background vocals, troubleshoot studio setups, and refine my sound. It made me a stronger artist. A big moment was writing my second album in Florida, co-writing with seasoned industry pros. I was nervous at first, but ended up contributing a lot more than I expected. That experience built my confidence and helped me fall in love with co-writing.

The hardest part in this industry has been hearing “no,” or not having the right people see or hear you at the right time. Putting in such dedication into your craft and not getting the proper contract, investor, or opportunity that you imagined is what makes you tough, but it’s also not an easy thing to go through. However, I am a big believer that everything happens in its season. I’ve been blessed with industry recognition, awards, and opportunities that allowed me to make a great living doing what I love. Connecting with people through music, hearing their stories, and sharing in their joy or struggles, that’s what keeps me going. With each new challenge comes an opportunity to rise above and encourage others to do the same!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and entertainer known for my renditions of America’s Great Classics from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, and more, and I am also a Country singer/songwriter.

Besides my orirignal song releases that can be found on all streaming and downloadable platforms, one of my proudest projects is the TV show I created and hosted, “Country Music News with Aubree-Anna”. This aired on The Country Network (TCN) and won a Telly Award! It highlights uplifting stories, positive news, and the “Big Cause” which is charitable organizations artists support off the stage. At the end of each show, a song that I wrote called “Superhero” plays, because I believe there’s a superhero in all of us.

I also created a show called “The Undiscovered” – a positive reality tv show concept, that celebrates hidden talents and unsung heroes across America. It is designed to find artistically, creatively, athletically, academically or even professionally fantastic people. Whether its kids, adults, groups, schools, an area or a venue, our mission is to give the “The Undiscovered” a chance to shine in their best light and to share with all of us their outstanding gifts they have been given. The pilot included support from The Dallas Cowboys, Dancing With The Stars, Lowe’s, and Fleming’s Steakhouse.

In addition to music and television, I’m also a professional painter. I began to cultivate my craft with drawing, pencil to charcoal, and then moved into water colors (my first painting was in 4th grade!). I soon after found my love for acrylic and oil paints and mixed-media. I specialize in color and black and white, Acrylic and Oil paintings of people, with a passion for women, children, the elderly, and multi-cultures around the world. I love interpreting emotion through the eyes.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Music is my life…LOVE is my mission…being adopted, I have always wanted to make a difference in the world, and I’m so thankful God has allowed music to be the vehicle. The people I’ve met along this journey have kept me encouraged with their smiles, laughs, dancing, and stories. It constantly reminds me of why I keep motivated, dedicated, & disciplined to the craft. I’m so grateful and I can’t wait for what’s to come…

Side note:

I enjoy traveling, hanging out with the family playing board games, laughing, etc.
Random, but I collect pig figurines (since my first pig purse at three years old)
I am a beach and water girl, but love winter vacations for Christmas
