Meet Caroline Harries of Moms in the Making in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Harries.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes a baby in the baby carriage.

I thought that’s how it worked, but as 1 in 8 couples have also discovered, it’s not that easy. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamt of the day I would get married and become a mom. After kissing a lot of frogs, I met the man of my dreams in 2009 and we got married in 2011.

Shortly after getting married we knew we wanted to start a family right away. My dream of becoming a mom was put on hold, when we were diagnosed with infertility. That began what has now been a 6-year journey of trying to expand our family. In 2013, about a year into our diagnosis, I felt led to have a few women over who were also struggling. What began as an in-person faith-based fertility support group, Moms in the Making, in my home in Plano, TX later expanded to a worldwide online audience in 2015. This past January we launched groups in 13 cities throughout North America and plan to continue expanding in years to come. Moms in the Making is a 501c3 that strives to bring hope and encouragement to women all over the world who desire to be mothers. Not only has Moms in the Making been birthed out of my trial, but I started a blog and wrote a book, both called In Due Time which has been a place of beautiful connection with people from all over the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After graduating from Baylor with a double major in finance and marketing and working for a healthcare company for 11 years as a financial analyst I faced a very tough decision. There came a point where Moms in the Making had expanded so rapidly that I couldn’t continue to give my best to both my corporate job and the ministry and I had to make the very difficult decision. In the midst of facing this struggle, I was awarded the top honor within my company, being inducted into the Hall of Fame, which made the decision to leave that much harder. Even though I knew it was what would be best and needed to happen, leaving my career, along with the people I spent every day with for 11 years to pursue Moms in the Making full-time was one of the greatest challenges I’ve had to overcome.

Moms in the Making – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
1 in 8 women go through infertility, and many of those women feel isolated from their friends and family. Our passion is to create an environment where every woman going through infertility feels welcome, loved and seen. We are able to do so through our online group, virtual group, and in-person groups that attract an audience from all over the world. We pride ourselves in pointing people to Christ in their journey and reminding woman that hope can only be found in God, not our circumstances. Our heart and mission is to remind people that more importantly than a baby, seeking Christ is what matters and we feel like that is what sets us apart from other fertility support groups.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I never thought I would be doing anything other than working in finance, let alone be doing it full-time. In October 2017, we hosted the 1st annual Moms in the Making conference and to look back on what was just once 6 women in my living room to a conference that took almost a year of planning with 160 women attending from 32 states and 3 countries and is by far one of the most memorable and rewarding memories. The conference went so well that we are hosting our 2nd conference this October 12-13th in Dallas and we hope to reach even more women who are currently struggling silently or alone.

Pricing: 2nd Annual Moms in the Making Conference; October 12-13, 2018; $129 – Regular, $179 – VIP through April 14th. Prices increase on April 15th.
