Hi Tamara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since a very young age I have always had the entrepreneurship mentality. I can remember around high school I entered an entrepreneurial contest and won 1st place with my hair business. I started doing my own hair in the 5th grade and never turned back. Fast forward to today, my passion for hair and business has never changed. I have gone through many different hair stages throughout my life thus far, but in March 2020 I started my Loc journey and fell in love with the journey so much, I wanted to share my experience with others. So that is briefly how I got to Tam’s Loc Experience!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth Road??? What’s that lol Things definitely have not been easy. So many trials and errors made, from learning how to run a business to figuring out my niche. Im pretty hardheaded lol so I always tend to take the road less traveled, which always leads me to where I belong. Alot of the time when I look back on things, it was mostly my mentality about who I felt I was and what I felt like I was capable of that made things complicated. Doubt has creeped in alot during my journey as a Loctician , but one thing I know for sure is, I wouldn’t change the journey!!

My name is Tam your DFW Loctician and I and the owner of Tam’s Loc Experience. I specialize in creating Healthy, Growing, Shiny Locs using my homemade all natural Flaxseed Loc Gel. Most Loctician’s use products from the store that have all of those chemicals in it that are not healthy for you scalp and hair. When I started my own Locs back in 2020, I wanted to make sure whatever Loc Gel I used was made of all natural products because that was something that was important to me. I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I went into my kitchen and created my own Loc Gel, in which I am super proud of the type of results is produces for my hair as well as my clients hair. What are your plans for the future?
EXPANSION!! One of my goals will be opening up my own salon in the DFW area. Owning my own salon has been a dream of mine since I was young girl.
At the moment I’m looking forward to growing my clientele and getting the word out on the benefit and results of using a natural Loc Gel on your hair versus the chemicals. Another goal of mine that I will complete, is starting a nonprofit that specializes is teaching children about the beauty industry and the possibilities of that being a life long career for them. We used to have courses we could take in grade school that taught us about cosmetology and they took that away as an option for our kids future, and I want to bring that back to them.
