Rising Stars: Meet Danni Davis of Arlington, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danni Davis.

Danni Davis

Danni, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My creativity always started with play. My Mema would allow me to dress up in her slips, pearls & heels and play in her Makeup. I’d do my Makeup then her Makeup and then Papa would come home from work and I’d do his Makeup also. Everyone was a really good sport! It was a safe space of love & creativity. It was play time & make believe. In that early childhood core memory our make believe was real. And it is still real to this day.

Makeup fully means everything to me. It has always been a safe haven to explore love & creativity and it would always bring my family & loved ones together in a space that nurtures your true individuality. Makeup allows you to be fully present in the moment because your brain is focused just on who is right there with you. You don’t think of the past or the future bc you are locked into playing in color and asking questions and in turn becoming who you want to be… together.

My confidence as a spiritual being having a human experience has always been based on my family allowing me to play & discover. To be able to discover not only myself but to discover and uncover who we both are at the exact same time. We are the same person. We are each other.

I know that I was placed in this life specifically to play, laugh, create & help others find themselves & feel beautiful during that process.

I want to say Thank You. Thank You to Mema, Papa & Mom for allowing me to be the crazy creative me that I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Any struggles, hardships, roadblocks or doors being closed are all redirecting you to where you need to be.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started paying in Makeup at the age of 2, with continuous daily practice in many avenues of Art. In 5th grade that’s when I wrote down that I wanted to become a Mac Cosmetics Makeup Artist & a Cosmetologist.

From there I started doing my entire families Makeup for everything. Halloween, any and all Special Events like Birthdays, Homecoming, Prom, Weddings, Headshots you name it. After building my portfolio I started a mobile Freelance Makeup & Hair Business in 2000 and have continued to be a Freelance Makeup ever since.

After having my oldest Son Shaden in 2006 I decided to enroll at the Ogle School of Hair Skin & Nails to further my Hair Education. I graduated from Ogle in 2008.

I interview for Mac Cosmetics 3 times before they finally gave me the position of a Freelance Makeup Artist in 2010. At Mac from 2010 to present day I have been a Freelance Makeup Artist to a Retail Manager and everything in between. I will always cherish my time, training, clients & life time friendships I have acquired at Mac Cosmetics.

In 2022 I decided to start working for multiple On Demand Beauty Teams in the DFW Metroplex. That has also been a great experience for learning, growing & perfecting my craft.

In 2023 I decided to finally name my Business I started in 2000 Dragon Artistry. The name Dragon comes from a close Mac friend of mine named Anthony Richardson. Anthony’s nickname is Dragon and he would call everyone else Dragon as a term of love & affection. Everyone who came into contact with Anthony was touched by his high energy & loving presence. Anthony is greatly missed by all who knew him. I bring Dragon & my Papa with me everywhere I go.

I am here to spread love through Makeup with Dragon Artistry. I offer On Location, In House & Venue Specific Cosmetic & Permanent Makeup Services. I am a Certified HMUA, PMU & Lash Technician. I specialize in Bridal, Special Events, SFX, Styled Shoots, Boudoir, Maternity, Headshots, Editorial, Film & Runway.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk ultimately emphasizes that achieving significant gains requires stepping outside your comfort zone.

One of my favorite quotes is from the Artist David Bowie:

Yes never play to the gallery. I think, but you never learn that until much later on. I think, but never work for other people, what you do always remember that the reason that you initially started working that there was something inside yourself that you felt that if you could manifest it in some way you would understand more about yourself and how you coexist with the rest of society and I think it’s terribly dangerous for an Artist to fulfill other people’s expectations. I think they generally produce their worst work when they do that. And the other thing I would say is if you feel safe in the area that you’re working in then you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you are capable of being in, go a little bit out of your depth. When you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom then you are just about in the right place to do something exciting.
