Today we’d like to introduce you to Dewone Bennett.
Hi Dewone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I often describe my story as one of resilience, purpose, and service. I grew up navigating experiences that exposed me early to hardship, trauma, and responsibility, and those seasons shaped how I understand people, pain, and perseverance. Those experiences did not just influence my life story; they became the foundation of the work I do today. Over time, I learned that the challenges we walk through can either break us or build us, and I chose to grow, to heal, and to allow those experiences to strengthen my sense of empathy and calling.
I went on to pursue a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and became a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and performance coach. For more than seventeen years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals, families, professionals, and organizations, helping them navigate stress, trauma, identity development, leadership growth, and emotional wellness. I eventually opened my own private group practice in North Dallas, where I provide therapy, coaching, consultation, and corporate training. Building my practice has allowed me to create spaces where people feel heard, supported, and empowered to transform their lives.
Along the way, I also expanded my work into community outreach, speaking, mentorship, and authoring projects that highlight resilience, personal growth, and diversity of thought. Whether I am working with adolescents, executives, athletes, couples, or organizations, my focus remains the same, helping people discover their strengths, process their stories, and move toward healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Today my journey continues to evolve. I am committed to developing new programs, expanding access to mental health care, and creating platforms that inspire people to live with intention, courage, and self-awareness. My story is still being written, and every step forward strengthens my passion for helping others become the best version of themselves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. My journey has been shaped by some deeply painful and formative life experiences. I was raised by a mother who had me at the age of 16, and from an early age I witnessed struggle, resilience, and the realities of growing up in environments where resources and support were limited. Those early years shaped my understanding of responsibility, survival, and perseverance.
As I moved into adulthood, life presented challenges that changed me in permanent ways. My senior year in high school, I found out I would be a father of a baby girl, Deareyah Bennett, and during my sophomore year in college, I lost my 15-month-old daughter. That Loss was heartbreaking, suffocating, and life-altering, and it forced me to confront grief, identity, faith, and purpose at a time when I was still trying to figure out who I was becoming. I also survived gun violence, and living through that experience gave me a deeper awareness of vulnerability, fear, and the emotional scars that traumatic events can leave behind.
Those seasons were heavy, and there were times when the weight of trauma, loss, and expectation felt overwhelming. Yet they also became part of the foundation of my work and my calling. They strengthened my empathy, sharpened my sense of purpose, and helped me connect with others who are navigating pain, transition, and emotional survival.
Professionally, the path has had challenges as well. Building a private practice, pursuing advanced education while working, and learning to lead in multiple roles required perseverance, discipline, and faith in the vision I was working toward. I also had to learn how to care for myself while caring for others, prioritizing boundaries and emotional wellness so I could continue to serve with clarity and compassion.
None of these struggles were easy, but they shaped the person and the professional I am today. They deepened my commitment to resilience, healing, and growth, and they fuel my passion to help others transform their own stories and move forward with strength and purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about D Bennett Counseling & Coaching?
My organization is a private group practice and consulting firm that focuses on mental health, performance, personal development, and organizational wellness. At its core, our mission is to help individuals, families, professionals, and teams build resilience, process emotional experiences, and develop healthier ways of thinking, functioning, and connecting with others.
We provide clinical counseling, performance coaching, corporate trainings, workshops, and speaking engagements. Our work spans areas such as trauma recovery, stress and anxiety management, identity development, leadership growth, relationship functioning, and work life balance. I also serve as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, supporting and developing emerging clinicians as they grow into ethical, confident, and compassionate practitioners.
What truly sets our practice apart is the lens we bring to the work. My background, lived experiences, research, and professional training allow me to approach mental health and performance through a holistic and culturally informed perspective. I integrate clinical psychology, empathy driven communication, narrative processing, and values based development to help people understand not just what they are experiencing, but why it matters to their story, identity, and future direction.
I am especially proud of the way our brand represents both excellence and authenticity. Our work is not just about treatment, it is about transformation, access, and empowerment. Whether I am supporting an individual client, mentoring a young professional, working with youth through mentorship programs, or training a corporate team, the goal remains the same, to create safe, growth-oriented spaces where people feel seen, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.
I want readers to know that our practice is committed to impact and sustainability. We are continuing to expand our services, develop community initiatives, and create programs that increase access to quality mental health support. Everything we do is grounded in compassion, accountability, and purpose, and we take great pride in being a trusted resource for both individuals and organizations who are striving to grow, heal, and perform at their highest level.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as alignment, growth, and impact. For me, success is not just about titles, achievements, or external recognition; it is about living in alignment with my purpose, my values, and the kind of man, father, leader, and servant I strive to be. When my work, my relationships, and my priorities reflect who I am at my core, that is success.
Success is about impact. I measure success by the lives I have helped strengthen, the families I have supported, the students and professionals I have guided, and the people who have found hope and clarity through our work together. If my journey and my story can help someone else navigate theirs with more courage and resilience, then I consider that success.
