Hi Amber, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Eleanor and I met as neighbors when our children were classmates, and what started as casual playdates quickly grew into a close friendship. A few years later, we independently fell in love with mahjong and began playing and learning together. As we shared the game with friends, we kept running into the same frustration. Beautiful, approachable mahjong sets were surprisingly hard to find, and owning your own often meant spending hundreds of dollars.
We began talking and sketching about what we wished existed. Tiles and accessories that felt joyful, modern, and welcoming, without the intimidating price tag. Very quickly, we realized we were not just interested in creating products. We wanted to help make mahjong feel more accessible and social, and to give people a reason to gather, connect, and belong.
What started as an idea at our kitchen tables grew into an online shop, with orders quite literally filling our homes. Today, that vision has expanded into a retail and event space where we sell our products, host games, and introduce new players to the joy of mahjong. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch something born out of friendship and curiosity turn into a community, and to meet people every day who are discovering or rediscovering the game alongside us.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like most small businesses, we have learned a tremendous amount by doing. From sourcing and production to inventory management, fulfillment, and scaling responsibly, every new stage has come with its own challenges. There were moments where we had to make quick decisions without having all the answers, and others where we learned lessons the hard way.
Running a business is not for the faint of heart, and there are days that feel overwhelming. That said, building something we truly love, alongside each other and within a community we care deeply about, has made even the hardest moments feel worthwhile. Getting to do work that brings people together and creates joy never truly feels like work, and that has kept us grounded and motivated through every challenge.

At Peace Love Mahjong, we design and sell modern mahjong tiles and accessories that feel joyful, elevated, and approachable. Our signature tile sets are colorful and thoughtfully designed, with a focus on quality, playability, and aesthetic appeal. We also offer a curated collection of racks, bags, mats, and accessories that are meant to work beautifully together and make the experience of hosting or playing mahjong feel special and effortless.
