Inspiring Conversations with Alberto Martinez of Kodiak Fence Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberto Martinez.

Hi Alberto, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career on the ground as a construction supervisor, which gave me a deep, hands-on understanding of project management and site operations. I quickly realized I had a passion for the business side of the industry, which led me to launch my first fencing company and, subsequently, a general contracting firm.

Both of those businesses are still successfully operating today, but I saw a specific, high-growth opportunity in the North Texas market. That’s what brought me to Dallas. Since moving here, I’ve focused on scaling that expertise through the launch of Kodiak Fence Company. My journey has really been about taking those early lessons from the field and turning them into scalable, reliable service models across the DFW metroplex.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and I think anyone in the project-based world would tell you the same. The biggest challenge is the inherent unpredictability. In construction and fencing, you are often at the mercy of shifting schedules, weather delays, and the ripple effects of unpredictable cash flow.

I’ve had years where we had a clear, ambitious plan on January 1st, but a single project with a bad outcome or a major delay forced us to scrap the entire strategy and pivot just to protect the business.

However, those struggles were actually the best teachers. They forced me to move away from just ‘managing projects’ to ‘managing risk.’ I had to get disciplined about building cash reserves, creating more flexible labor models, and improving my vetting process for new contracts. The road hasn’t been smooth, but the bumps are exactly what taught me how to build a business that is durable enough to survive the next unexpected turn.

We’ve been impressed with Kodiak Fence Company, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a specialized fencing contractor serving the North DFW area, with physical offices in both Dallas and Flower Mound. Our scope is broad—we handle everything from high-end residential projects to large-scale commercial fencing—but our approach is very focused.

What truly sets us apart in this industry are three non-negotiables: Speed, Trust, and Honesty. In a field where contractors are often known for communication breakdowns or shifting timelines, we’ve built our entire reputation on doing the opposite. We understand that for a homeowner or a business manager, a fence isn’t just a project; it’s a matter of security and curb appeal. We prioritize getting the job done fast without cutting corners, and we are transparent about every dollar and every day in the schedule.

From a brand perspective, I am incredibly proud of the momentum we’ve built. In less than one year, we have established a 5-star reputation. To enter a market as competitive as North Texas and immediately earn that level of trust from the community tells me that people were hungry for a contractor who actually does what they say they’re going to do. When people see the Kodiak Fence or Dallas Fence name, I want them to know they’re getting more than just a crew—they’re getting a partner who values their time and their property as much as they do.”

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Dallas is the sheer energy of its growth and diversity. As a business owner, you can feel the momentum here; there is a unique ‘can-do’ spirit that makes it a fantastic place to launch new ventures. But beyond the economics, the diversity of the city is its true strength. Whether it’s the different neighborhoods, the food, or the backgrounds of the people I work with every day, Dallas feels like a true melting pot where new ideas and hard work are actually welcomed.”

What I like least: “If I had to pick what I like least, it’s seeing the geographic disparity—the fact that as fast as we are growing, there are still certain sectors and neighborhoods that feel a bit left behind. In the construction and service industry, you see the ‘two sides’ of the city quite clearly. While the overall trajectory of Dallas is incredible, I think the next great challenge for the city is ensuring that the prosperity we’re seeing in North Dallas and the booming suburbs eventually makes its way into every corner of the community.”
