Exploring Life & Business with LaTreece Ross of LaTreece Ross Counseling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTreece Ross.

Hi LaTreece, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the field of mental health began in the classroom, where I first witnessed the powerful connection between emotional well-being and academic success. I spent 10 years as a Special Education Inclusion Teacher and 5 years as an Elementary School Counselor, walking alongside children navigating trauma, learning differences, and emotional challenges. During those years, I saw firsthand how deeply identity, resilience, and mental health are intertwined. I knew my work was bigger than the classroom and educational setting. I felt called to create spaces where healing could happen more intentionally and more fully.

Long before I opened my practice, however, resilience became personal.

As a teenager, I experienced a severe neurological health crisis that left me temporarily paralyzed and wheelchair-bound for eight months during my senior year of high school. My future felt uncertain, and doctors questioned whether I would fully recover. Through rehabilitation, faith, and relentless determination, I walked across the stage at graduation. That moment became a defining chapter in my life—not simply because I walked—but because I learned what it means to rebuild when everything shifts.

Years later, additional health challenges, required me to once again grieve, redefine identity, and move forward with courage. Those seasons stretched me. They refined me. They deepened my understanding of loss, transition, and the quiet strength it takes to begin again.

In 2020, I founded LaTreece Ross Counseling Services in the Dallas–Plano area. Today, the practice serves children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, with a strong focus on trauma-informed care, foster care youth, anxiety, depression, and identity development. My clinical approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused strategies, and strength-based care—helping clients recognize that while life may shake them, it does not define them.

What began as a calling has grown into a thriving practice rooted in one core belief: you may go through something that challenges you—but you are not broken. Healing is possible. Growth is possible. And resilience lives within you, even when you cannot yet see it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching my practice was surprisingly aligned. The administrative setup, clinical protocols, policies, systems, and marketing strategies came together with clarity and focus. My years in education had prepared me to build structure, develop programs, and think both clinically and operationally. From branding and outreach to implementing trauma-informed frameworks, the foundation of LaTreece Ross Counseling Services was built with intention and confidence.

While the business side flowed, the personal growth required to sustain it required stretching. There were moments of hesitation and questioning whether my voice was strong enough to lead publicly. Over time, however, I began extending myself the same compassion I offer my clients. I released the pressure to be perfect and chose simply to be present.

That shift changed everything. Self-criticism gave way to self-love. Visibility stopped feeling like exposure and began to feel like purpose. I learned that growth is rarely loud or dramatic; more often, it is the quiet, consistent decision to show up with courage.

The road has required refinement and resilience, but it has also been deeply rewarding. The practice has grown steadily, the mission remains clear, and I have grown alongside it—stronger, more confident, and grounded in who I am.

Success, I’ve learned, is not the absence of struggle. It is the willingness to evolve through it.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m intentional about pouring into myself the same way I encourage my clients to do. A few resources have been especially meaningful in helping me stay grounded, focused, and resilient.

I regularly use the Calm app for guided meditation and stress regulation. It helps me reset mentally, especially on full days when I’m holding space for others. I also appreciate HowWeFeel.org, which is a powerful emotional awareness tool. It encourages intentional check-ins and expands emotional vocabulary—something I value both personally and professionally.

In terms of books, One in a Million by Priscilla Shirer has been impactful spiritually. It’s a reminder of discipline, faith, and perseverance—qualities that shape both leadership and personal growth. Successful Women Think Differently by Valorie Burton has also been influential. It reinforces the mindset habits that cultivate resilience, clarity, and intentional living.

I believe growth requires maintenance. Whether through faith-based encouragement, emotional check-ins, or mindset development, these resources help me show up as my best self—in my work and in my life.
