Today we’d like to introduce you to Bre Torp.
Hi Bre, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Her Advocate Weddings & Events began with a leap of faith and the influence of two incredible women who shaped my early journey in the industry—a photographer and a wedding planner. I initially began assisting the photographer, which naturally meant helping with the flow and coordination of wedding days. Very quickly, I realized how much I loved the energy, emotion, and organization that goes into creating such meaningful celebrations.
Wanting to learn more, I sought out an experienced wedding planner who graciously allowed me to shadow her for a year. She not only taught me the inner workings of the industry but also encouraged me to step into my own potential. With her support and the inspiration of those early mentors, I founded Her Advocate.
What began as wedding coordination has since grown into a full-service event planning company. Today, in addition to weddings, I also design and coordinate upscale private celebrations and corporate events. Expanding into these spaces has allowed me to bring the same level of care, organization, and personalized experience to many different types of meaningful gatherings.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many entrepreneurs discover, the hardest part of starting a business is not always the craft itself—it’s learning how to run the business behind the craft. Event planning comes naturally to me, but building a company that is financially sustainable and structured for long-term growth has been an entirely different challenge.
Over the years I’ve invested significant time learning the operational side of entrepreneurship—everything from pricing and contracts to long-term planning and scalability. Those lessons have helped me build a business that supports not only my clients but also my future goals and the vision I have for the company.
Each challenge has ultimately strengthened the foundation of Her Advocate and helped me grow into a more strategic and thoughtful business owner.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At the heart of my work is one core principle: relationships. Whether I am coordinating a wedding, an intimate celebration, or a corporate event, my goal is always to ensure my clients feel supported, understood, and confident throughout the entire process.
Before dedicating myself fully to Her Advocate, I worked as a 911 operator. That experience uniquely prepared me for this industry. It taught me how to remain calm under pressure, think quickly, solve problems in real time, and lead people through high-stress situations with confidence.
Today I bring those same skills to every event I plan. Weddings will always be a cornerstone of my work, but expanding into upscale private and corporate events has allowed me to apply my expertise in new ways and help clients create meaningful experiences that bring people together.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
People often talk about luck in business, but I believe what many call luck is really the result of relationships, initiative, and being willing to step outside your comfort zone.
Throughout my career, some of my greatest opportunities have come from simply putting myself in the room—meeting new people, building authentic relationships, and staying open to possibilities that I may not have initially planned for. The connections we make and the way we nurture them can open doors we never expected.
Success in this industry is rarely achieved alone. It comes from collaboration, community, and the willingness to continually grow your network and broaden your horizons.
