Rising Stars: Meet Tony “The B” Roberson of Dallas, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony “The B” Roberson.

Hi Tony “The B”, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in music has always been connected to something deeper than sound. I first began creating and releasing music under the name Tony B, a season of my life where I was discovering both my voice as an artist and my purpose as a person. During that time, I was developing my craft, learning how to communicate through lyrics, and realizing that music could be more than entertainment. In fact, it could actually serve to be a vessel for truth, faith, and transformation.

As my walk with God deepened, I began to understand that growth is not just creative, but spiritual. There came a moment where I felt called to step into a new identity, one that reflected not just who I was, but who I was becoming. Earlier last year I lost my Aunt whom I was very close with, and when returning back home I heard the Holy Spirit ask me to let Him in. Attached to my secular identity, I ignored. Months eventually passed as I was on a flight home from a work trip one week and God woke me up 3 times on that flight as I heard the words “No more my son, only clean from here on out”. It was then I knew I could not deny the Spirit any longer. From that point on I decided to truly get my life together and use my voice for a higher calling.

To me, The B represents the power of being who God created me to be. Being bold in purpose. Being willing to grow, transform, and walk in faith even when the path isn’t always clear. The name is a reminder that life is a continual process of becoming, and that our identity is shaped not only by talent, but by calling. I like to think of myself as a vessel for The Big 3 (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit). Not to mention I believe in being authentic as possible within my walk with Christ.

My music reflects that journey. Every song I create carries pieces of my testimony that highlight moments of faith, struggle, perseverance, and revelation. I believe music has the power to reach people in places that words alone cannot, and my goal is to create records that not only move people emotionally, but also inspire them spiritually. I like to also think my calling to music happens to be a form of ministry. One that can help influence a generation of other creatives/musical artists that want to make a difference.

The B wasn’t just a name change as it was a declaration. A declaration that my music, my creativity, and my voice belong to something greater than myself. Through every verse and every melody, my mission is simple: to use music as a way to uplift, encourage, and remind people that purpose, faith, and transformation are always possible. The mind is battlefield so we must always stay equip with Armor. For anyone who comes across my music, I hope that voice helps them as motivation on the battlefield of whatever they are going through.

The best part about my story is that it is still unfolding and that alone continues to inspire me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Man, truthfully I can say that is has not. Yet, that isn’t to discourage anyone whom happens to be an artist. If anything, the journey is supposed to be difficult, as I always tell others we must move by faith and not by sight. One of the most difficult things I have learned about this journey is that we cannot control everything that is apart of the journey. We must surrender and give the direction of things to God. He happens to be the Author of everyone’s story I believe. Therefore, when we run into obstacles, we must understand that the Lord gives us strength. One of my favorite verses is from Jeremiah 29;11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse reminds me how much that God is in control. For me in my journey, I look at God as a Heavenly Father who looks to take care of us all.

I can remember some of my early struggles had to deal with having not enough money to keep going but God always provided for me when he thought it was best. Not to mention I also have had to learn to record myself, engineer my vocals, and write my lyrics from a creative perspective. There were nights when my Wife and I shed tears from the growing pains of staying committed to our faith. Yet we prevailed and continued to tithe, hop on 5am prayer calls 3 times a week, and stay committed to attending church.

Another obstacle I would like to highlight is outside of the recording process, being able to produce consistent content. My Wife happens to be my videographer as well as my photographer while I am the editor of the videos I release. We happen to be a great tag team duo and love working together. Though I have learned some moments I like to take in when we are together, as every location we travel to isn’t for content. Yet she knows that once I have that creative brain blast there is absolutely no stopping me from pursuing the idea I have mind.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Okay. So outside of my musical journey, I happen to be a freelance creative. My background actually entails almost over 10 years of graphic design, art direction, and creative direction. I first began my journey on this, after a course that I took in high school. Nevertheless, I learned more about audio/video production and photography. This helped me to channel everything from art that I created from my phone, to that of which would be on a computer.

Graduating from East Texas A&M University (formerly known as TAMUC), I was able to begin my first big part of my career doing political art for the George Floyd Memorial Foundation. Afterwards I began at the Richards Group creating ad campaigns and excelling to become an Art Director in just 6-7 months of interning. Here I was able to channel all of my abilities I first mentioned and work with copywriters to bring my vision for other brands to life. Expanding from flyers to creative directing commercials and developing campaigns, I happened to learn a lot. I believe it was here that I began to understand how to build brand awareness for other brands while also learning how I can apply it to my own personal brand. Still unsure of how to develop it, I continued my journey and explored contract work, freelance, and even full time creative work.

In 2023, I began working at Ogle School Hair, Skin, & Nails as an In House Creative serving as the Art Director. After creating the brand guidebook and learning how I could grow as a creative, I had the opportunity to attend the In House In Focus Conference. It was here I was able to engage and learn about various brands like Coca Cola, The MET, and even Google. This influenced me not only to apply my knowledge of growing a brand to my creative work but also to be inspired to finally understand how to develop my personal brand. With my faith being bold, I then again chose to further expand and begin building my brand to help others.

I created my own digital work page titled “Heavens Lens” and “Skybox Studios”. Heavens Lens happens to be my creative work that I create for the community I live in, as well as clients that are just starting up their business. Let alone, Skybox Studios is a fashion design page for clothes that I design. Within this time span I was nervous but continued pursuing my additional dreams and helping develop creative work on both Instagram pages for many clients. As of recently, I developed some shirt designs for AIGA Dallas and was selected as the winner of the 2026 T-Shirt Design Contest. This then influenced me to pursue hat designs as well as shoe designs from which I have developed using my artistic abilities of drawing.

I believe this has set me apart as I also used to work within marketing in college. This influenced me to create my own personal brand for my music career, called “Hood Angel Forever”. The name derives from a place of that no matter where you are from, you too can be different and make a difference in your hometown. There are many individuals who can get involved with the wrong crowd, as my brand is meant to help lead others in a path that explores creativity. They too can be Angels and help create something new for others to believe in. Now my goal is simply to strengthen my marketing abilities as I maneuver through all of my creative outlets.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory happens to be with my cousins at my grandmas house on my mother’s side. Life was free and full of long walks, riding bicycles, and budgeting when purchasing snacks. I was a shy individual and spent most of my time in the house playing video games and drawing. Yet my cousins always would break me out of my comfort zone and helped me understand the world from a cultural perspective. I believe this is what influenced me to become the leader I am today because I was able to see us build things that made an impact.

For instance, throughout the summertime then we would work together to build my grandmas house. Adding additional rooms, developing the roof, and even keeping the lawn freshly cut. It was these moments that helped me see how much life is meant to be appreciated in the little moments. So as an adult, I developed my keen sense of building brands from understanding that those little details I apply to designs can help make anyone smile. As a kid, I always used to listen to many music artists as well as study art. Both of which helped me grow to understand what I would eventually build my brand on.

My grandma would make sure all of my cousins and myself included where in church throughout the week as well as Sunday. Growing up Baptist, I attended Concord Church in Oak Cliff and made many friends while in Summer Camp. My parents were both working heavily at this time period, so I kept busy by reading the word and going on field trips. When the school season started back up, I was in PowerHouse (After School Daycare) at Life School Oak Cliff. It was here that I continued to grow with Christ and learn how to worship, repent, and develop community standards. My education first started out at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, where I developed my ability of understanding the bible early on. I thank God everyday for my journey thus far.
