Rising Stars: Meet Sabre Sabo of Morgan, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabre Sabo.

Hi Sabre, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Heartdog Labradors story really began when I lost my son, Jake, in 2019. My heartdog, Buper, hit the floor with me that day when I got the phone call about my son and never left my side. I took him everywhere with me and I mean, everywhere…grocery store, airplanes, customer meetings…everyone got to know Buper and knew exactly what he was to me and that he was my lifeline. Once I could breathe again, a few years later, I decided I wanted to give others the gift of what Buper has been for me. That’s when Heartdog Labradors was born. Buper put the heart in Heartdog.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This venture has definitely had its struggles. Breeding dogs the right way takes planning and research. It’s expensive to get started and you have to have both feet in to do it right. We had struggles with finding the right dogs we wanted for our program. Dealing with dishonest breeders was the hardest part. We were determined to only have healthy dogs in our program to produce healthy puppies. Our dogs are all DNA health tested and bred to produce only clear by percentage puppies. My husband, Kevin, and I picked up and moved to my Moms place after she passed away so we could expand our dog family with plenty of room to do it. We live on 7 acres in Morgan TX. The transition from city living to country living was an adjustment all its own, to say the least but knew it would be the best thing for our growing dog family. It’s just Kevin and I, we make a great team!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We breed high quality, field bred Labradors. We have 6 fully DNA health tested females and our Buper. Buper is neutered and now on his last leg so it’s our turn to take care of him. He’s definitely earned it. He’s my heart and soul. I’m not sure I’d still be here if it hadn’t been for him and Kevin. I’m enjoying every day I still get with him.

Our puppies are bred with intention for family or work. These Labs have incredible bloodlines, highly trainable and ready for hunting, service or the perfect family companion. Our babies get ENS (early neurological stimulation) starting at 3 days old along with ESI (early scent introductions). We introduce them to every possible sound from storms to babies crying. They are potty box trained to help with potty training when they go home and they are socialized with our other 7 Labradors. We have a huge outdoor enrichment area they play in starting at 4-5 weeks old and they still sleep under our roof every night. One of our first litters was 16 puppies. Talk about busy and FUN! We are known for the love and care we put into our dogs, puppies and our program. Our puppies are truly raised in our home. Our big dogs aren’t in outdoor buildings and kennels. They live with us and are truly family.

Prompt and thorough communication with our potential, upcoming and current families is extremely important to us. Becoming a part of the Heartdog family means just that…FAMILY. We offer lifetime breeder support. Getting a puppy from Heartdog is a whole experience from breeding to birth to gotcha day and beyond. We send our families daily growth charts along with daily pics and videos during their 8 weeks here on the farm. We keep our socials updated daily with pics and videos. Everyone always loves the “Kevin chronicles” while he walks the big dogs every day.

Heartdog puppies are personally delivered by us via in cabin flight all over the US. Any Texas locals, or anyone willing to drive, are welcome to pick up their baby right here on the farm. We will also deliver to our DFW airports for those that fly in for their baby. We like to say these babies are…”From our hearts to yours”. Our dogs and these babies get all the love in my heart I have for my son, Jake that just has nowhere else to go. We name a puppy from every litter, Jake, in his honor.

I am extremely proud of the big, healthy puppies we produce and our relationships with our families. What sets us apart, along with everything that’s already been said, is true love for the breed.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to us means happy and healthy dogs and puppies and happy families. Success is receiving heartdog updates daily…celebrating their puppies successes and helping our families with questions and concerns. Success to us is measured by the relationships built with our Heartdog families. We acknowledge our faults and mistakes. Making those course corrections and learning from them for continued growth…for us, that’s success.
