Community Highlights: Meet Jasmine Griffin of TalkWithJB

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Griffin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into the work I do today is deeply personal. Long before I became a licensed mental health counselor, leader, trainer, and founder of TALKwithJB, I was someone trying to make sense of my own experiences and give myself permission to find and use my voice.

For more than a decade, writing poetry was a private practice for me. To be honest, it was never meant to be shared publicly; it was simply a way to process life, reflect, and make meaning of what I was going through. Over time, those quiet reflections grew into something bigger and eventually became the foundation for my book She Stood Up and Walked. The book tells a deeply human story about identity, resilience, and what it means to rebuild your life when the path you once imagined changes.

Professionally, I now spend my time supporting others in their own journeys of growth and healing. Through my counseling practice, TALKwithJB, I work with individuals navigating life transitions, relationships, and personal challenges. In my role as a training officer, I also design and facilitate professional development for helping professionals, focusing on topics like trauma-informed care, communication, boundaries, and sustainable practices for those doing high-impact work in refugee resettlement.

In many ways, my personal and professional paths are intertwined. My experiences shaped my passion for this work, and my work continues to reinforce how powerful honest conversations, self-reflection, and supportive spaces can be in helping people move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, I think that’s true for most meaningful journeys.

There have been seasons in my life where I had to confront difficult realities about relationships, my identity, and what it means to choose yourself after years of putting others first. People pleasing is a hard habit to break. Some of those experiences are reflected in my book, where I share the emotional process of rediscovering my voice and rebuilding a life that felt authentic and aligned with who I truly am.

There were absolutely moments of doubt, defeat, grief, and confusion and fear about starting over. Learning to set boundaries, trust myself again, and move forward required a lot of courage, healing and self-love.

Professionally, stepping into leadership, building my own practice, and sharing my story publicly also came with vulnerability. All of those challenges have ultimately strengthened my purpose. They reminded me that healing isn’t linear, and that our hardest chapters can become the very experiences that equip us to support and empower others to do the same.

Looking back, I’m forever grateful for those difficult seasons because they shaped both my perspective and my passion for the work I do every day.

As you know, we’re big fans of TalkWithJB. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
TALKwithJB is my private counseling and coaching practice, and the name reflects what I believe is at the heart of meaningful change: tough conversations that lead to healing, growth, and deeper understanding. Through TALKwithJB, I work with individuals who want a supportive space to process life transitions, relationships, personal challenges, and mental and emotional well-being. My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, with a strong focus on helping people better understand their journey, come home to themselves, and move toward the lives they want to create.

Alongside my private practice, I also work as a Training Officer where I design and facilitate professional development for helping professionals within the refugee resettlement sector. In that role, I focus on topics like trauma-informed care, communication, boundaries, and sustainable practices for those working in high-impact service fields. In many ways, both roles complement each other. My clinical work keeps me grounded in the real experiences people face every day, while my training work allows me to share practical tools that strengthen the skills and resilience of those supporting others.

What sets my work apart is my focus on both individual healing and supporting the helpers. I’m passionate about creating spaces—whether in therapy sessions or training rooms—where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that TALKwithJB has always been rooted in authenticity and intention. The goal has never been just to provide services, but to create a safe and brave space where meaningful conversations are had that lead to insight, connection, and lasting change.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories will always be being on the basketball court. When I stepped onto the court, everything else in the world seemed to pause. It was just me, my teammates, and the game.

My passion for basketball started early, and looking back now, I realize the court was more than just a place to play, it was also my safe space. It gave me a way to express myself when I didn’t always have the words. The emotions, thoughts, and words I felt that I couldn’t say out loud often came out through the game.

In many ways, basketball taught me some of the same lessons that guide my work today: teamwork, resilience, discipline, and the importance of finding healthy outlets to express what we’re carrying. Looking back, I can see how those early experiences shaped my appreciation for creating spaces where people feel safe to express themselves, which is why that is something that continues to influence the work I do today.
