Today we’d like to introduce you to Jouelle Young.
Hi Jouelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair when I was about 10 years old fast-forward to my adult life. I went to cosmetology school at the age of 26 graduated 27 and started my professional hair journey then I moved to Dallas in 2020. I didn’t know a lot of people, but I built my clientele within two weeks of living here. In 2023 I decided to open up my own salon studio after I kept getting DM’s from girls asking me if I had booths available. When they were asking me I was in a salon suite, but I just took it as a sign and just went on to open up a salon. The J Slay Studios. My salon is located downtown Dallas and we are fully staffed.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not always easy. I am a single mother and I moved with a 1yr old and little to no help. Sometimes I would have to bring my child with me when I did not have proper child care . It was probably the Hardest thing trying to build a business with a Baby. With a lot of prayers and a lot of determination my daughter motivated me to the spot I am today. She is 7 yrs old now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The J Slay Studios is a Full service salon .
We specialize in Extensions and Natural Hair.
I am an Extension Specialist, specializing in all things Extensions.
What sets me apart is that I provide Shampoo, Condition and Trim in all services as well as the extensions . I am a one stop shop all you have to do is show up . I am also extremely professional and very time efficient in my work.
I am proud of having a Fully staffed open floor salon full of Women who want to see each other win! We learn from each other daily.
I want people to know that we provide quality work no matter the style !
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wanna give credit to my Daughter. She has been there since the start of my journey. Seen me cry, breakdown, work my ass off and all , but she gave me all the motivation I needed to navigate in the world of entrepreneurship.
