Hi Afua, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Three years ago, Nuru Bites began with a dream. I saw myself baking cookies and selling them, and in the dream, every cookie sold out. I woke up the next morning with a deep sense that I was supposed to start baking. Within three days, I taught myself how to bake cookies from scratch, packed them up, and went out to sell them. I sold out that same day. In that moment, what started as a dream became reality.

I kept baking and selling, and every time I went out, I sold out again. That’s when I realized this was more than just baking it was the beginning of something bigger. What started as a simple step of faith turned into a business, a brand, and a mission. Nuru Bites was built on faith, consistency, and the belief that small beginnings can grow into something far greater than you ever imagined.

Today, Nuru Bites is more than cookies. It represents courage, and the willingness to start before you feel ready. What began with one dream and a few cookies has grown into a luxury cookie brand, and this is only the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been completely smooth. Like many small business owners, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing finances, production, and growth while starting with very limited resources. In the beginning, I was baking from home, teaching myself everything from recipes to packaging, marketing, and sales. There were many long nights, early mornings, and moments where I had to step out on faith, not knowing how everything would come together.

Another challenge has been scaling the business while maintaining quality and consistency. As demand grew and I continued to sell out, I had to learn how to produce larger quantities, navigate commercial kitchen spaces, permits, and the operational side of running a business.

However, one of the most meaningful parts of this journey is that Nuru Bites is not just a business it is also a mission. I use the business as a way to help fund community outreaches and serve people in need right here in Dallas. So while there have been challenges, every obstacle has also given the business a deeper purpose. It’s not just about selling cookies; it’s about building something that can impact people’s lives both through business and through outreach.

Looking back, the challenges were necessary because they helped me grow not only as a business owner, but also as a leader and a person. The journey is still unfolding, but every step has been worth it.

What started as a small baking dream has grown into a brand focused not just on great desserts, but on creating an experience through quality, presentation, and creativity.

Through the business, we are able to provide resources, support community events, and help meet practical needs for families and young people.

What I am most proud of is that Nuru Bites started from nothing but a dream and has grown through consistency, faith, and hard work. It represents what can happen when you start small and stay committed. I want readers to know that Nuru Bites is more than cookies it is a brand built on purpose, community, and the belief that business can be used not just to generate income, but to make a real impact in people’s lives.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that most people don’t know about me is that I didn’t go to culinary school and I never planned to become a baker. Everything started from a dream, and within three days I taught myself how to bake cookies and started selling them. I learned everything through trial and error, long nights of practicing recipes, and going out and selling in person to see what people loved.

Another thing people may not know is that the business is deeply connected to community work. Nuru Bites is not just a bakery it’s also a way I help fund community outreaches that support homeless, youth and families in need in DFW. So while people see cookies and a luxury dessert brand, behind the scenes the business is also helping support a larger mission to give back and impact the community.

So what may look like a cookie business on the outside is actually much bigger to me it’s purpose-driven, and every sale is connected to something greater than just dessert.
