Today we’d like to introduce you to Shermetre Smith.
Hi Shermetre, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Shermetre Smith, founder and principal designer of Anntraves Interior Design here in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. My journey into design really started long before I ever called it a business. I have always had a natural love for creating beautiful, functional spaces, rearranging rooms, helping family and friends, and seeing how a space could completely change how someone feels.
Over time, what began as a passion grew into something much bigger. I realized design is not just about making things look good, it was about creating environments that support people’s lifestyles, their growth, and even their peace of mind. That realization pushed me to step out on faith and build my own company.
Now, over six years later, Anntraves Interior Design specializes in luxury residential and commercial projects. I have had the opportunity to work on everything from full home renovations to new builds, always with the goal of delivering “Creative Luxury Design Solutions.” For me, every project is personal, it is about telling my client’s story through their space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges has been shifting how people perceive what I do. Early on, many people saw interior design as simply decorating, but there is so much more that goes into it, including space planning, project management, budgeting, and creating a cohesive vision from start to finish.
Another challenge has been building a luxury brand in a very competitive market. I had to really refine my voice, my processes, and my client experience to align with the level of service I wanted to provide. That meant being intentional about everything, from how I present my work to how I communicate with clients.
There have also been moments where I had to learn to balance growth with quality. As the business expanded, I had to make sure every client still felt seen, heard, and supported throughout their project.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Anntraves Interior Design, my work is centered around creating elevated, intentional spaces that reflect how my clients truly live. I specialize in luxury residential and commercial design, through design service packages ranging from full-service design to E-Design and À La Carte consultations.
What sets my work apart is the balance between beauty and function. I am not just focused on how a space looks, I am focused on how it feels and how it performs day-to-day. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, from space planning and material selections to the overall flow and experience within the home.
I am especially known for guiding clients through the entire design process with clarity and confidence. Many of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, and my role is to simplify the process, bring their vision into focus, and execute it at a high level.
My design style leans toward refined, modern luxury with a timeless foundation, but I always tailor each project to the client. No two spaces should ever feel the same.
At the end of the day, my goal is to deliver more than just a finished space. I aim to create an experience where my clients feel supported, inspired, and proud of the environment they call home.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to trust my vision and my expertise. As designers, we are brought in for a reason, and it is important to stand confidently in that.
I have also learned that communication is everything. When clients feel informed and included, the entire process becomes smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Another key lesson is that not every opportunity is meant for you and that is okay. The right clients will value your work, trust your process, and align with your vision.
Most importantly, I have learned that consistency and perseverance are what truly build a brand. Success does not happen overnight, but when you stay committed to your craft and continue to grow, the results will come.
