Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Cherveny.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My background isn’t traditional for this industry. I started in the military, which instilled discipline and accountability early on, and then transitioned into high-performance sales, including time as a sales manager at Zillow. That experience shaped how I think about systems, execution, and scaling a business.
When I entered the outdoor living space, I quickly realized how fragmented the industry was. Most companies were heavily reliant on subcontractors, lacked consistent processes, and didn’t put enough emphasis on what actually makes projects last—things like base preparation, drainage, and proper installation methods. A lot of projects looked great at completion but didn’t hold up over time, especially in North Texas where soil movement and drainage are constant challenges.
That gap is what led to building OhMyYard the way we have. Instead of operating like a typical contractor, we’ve built a company around structure, accountability, and in-house execution. We run multiple crews, handle projects end-to-end, and focus heavily on the foundational elements that most people never see but that ultimately determine the quality and longevity of the work.
Today, we’ve completed millions of dollars in projects across the DFW area, and we’re continuing to grow by staying focused on doing things the right way. We’re not trying to be the cheapest option, we’re focused on building the dominant outdoor living company in DFW by combining craftsmanship, systems, and a disciplined approach to execution.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
One of the biggest challenges has been building structure and control in an industry that typically operates without it. A lot of companies grow through subcontracting, loose processes, and relationship-based execution, which can work in the short term but creates inconsistency and limits scalability.
We’ve been intentional about moving in a different direction—building more control into the business through in-house crews, clearer systems, and more defined processes. That transition isn’t easy. It requires tightening up operations, improving communication between sales and production, and making sure every job is executed to the same standard regardless of who’s on site.
Managing growth has also been a challenge. As demand increases, you have to evolve your systems just as quickly or things can break down. We’ve had to continuously refine how we operate—from scheduling and project management to quality control—to keep pace with that growth.
There’s also an education component. Many clients initially focus on price without fully understanding the differences in installation methods, materials, and long-term performance. Part of our role is helping them understand why doing things the right way matters—especially in North Texas, where drainage and soil movement can significantly impact the longevity of a project.
Overall, the challenges have pushed us to become more structured, more disciplined, and more intentional. We’re still evolving, but everything we’re building is centered around gaining more control and consistency so we can scale the right way and continue moving toward becoming the dominant outdoor living company in DFW.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
OhMyYard Outdoor Living is a North Texas–based company focused on designing and building fully engineered outdoor environments.
We specialize in artificial turf, custom putting greens, patios, pavers, pergolas, drainage systems, lighting, and sports courts—but what really defines us is how we approach the build process. In a market where many projects are pieced together through subcontractors and inconsistent methods, we’ve built our company around in-house execution, structured systems, and full accountability from start to finish.
A major part of our focus is what happens beneath the surface. In North Texas, soil movement and drainage play a huge role in the longevity of any outdoor project. We emphasize proper base preparation, grading, and drainage planning so that what we build doesn’t just look good initially—it performs long term.
We’ve also developed specific installation methods, like our S-Seam approach for turf, to improve durability and reduce visible seams. These types of details are often overlooked in the industry, but they’re critical to delivering a higher-quality result.
From a brand perspective, we’re most proud of the structure we’re building behind the scenes. We’re not trying to operate like a typical landscaping company—we’re building a more disciplined, system-driven organization that can deliver consistent results at scale.
At a high level, our goal is to become the dominant outdoor living company in DFW by combining craftsmanship, operational structure, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Any big plans?
Our focus moving forward is on building a more structured, scalable operation while continuing to expand our footprint across North Texas.
A big part of that is strengthening our internal systems, everything from project management and quality control to crew structure and execution standards. We’re very focused on building a company that can deliver consistent results at scale, not just grow for the sake of growth.
On the service side, we’re continuing to expand into full outdoor environments and more comprehensive backyard builds, so we can take on larger, more integrated projects from start to finish.
We’re also focused on brand development. The goal is to build a company that people immediately recognize and trust, not just because of the work itself, but because of the experience and reliability behind it.
Long term, the vision is to establish OhMyYard as the dominant outdoor living company in DFW by combining high-quality craftsmanship with a disciplined, system-driven approach to building.
