Meet Tamika Jefferso of Miss Tee’s Childcare Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Jefferso.

Hi Tamika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Before starting my childcare business, I was always drawn to working with children. Years ago, I created a dance team in my community for children under the age of eight, and that was the first time I truly felt a sense of purpose. I had to step away when I went to college full-time, but that experience stayed with me.

During my junior year of college, as I was preparing to graduate, I found myself unsure about my next steps. In that moment, I reflected on when I was happiest, and it was during the time I spent working with children. That clarity pushed me to fully pursue what is now Miss Tee’s Childcare Academy.

I relocated from Mississippi to Texas to gain experience and create better opportunities for myself. After gaining hands-on experience, I started with an in-home daycare in 2020 during the pandemic. After about a year and a half, I was able to expand into a childcare facility.

The journey wasn’t easy—finances were one of my biggest challenges, especially starting with no savings and navigating early financial decisions that I later had to overcome. There were moments I felt like giving up, but I stayed committed, made better financial choices, and continued to grow. Over time, the business began to stabilize and thrive.

What sets Miss Tee’s Childcare Academy apart is our focus on the whole child. We prioritize not only academic readiness, but also social, emotional, and behavioral development, creating a well-rounded foundation for every child. Parents appreciate that we keep them actively involved and connected to their child’s daily experiences and growth.

Today, we serve children from 18 months to 12 years old, and my goal is to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and every family feels supported. I strive to make a lasting impact by helping children build confidence, develop strong character, and prepare for future success.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Miss Tee’s Childcare Academy is a purpose-driven childcare program dedicated to providing a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for children ages 18 months to 12 years old. We offer a well-rounded program that supports not only academic development, but also social, emotional, and behavioral growth.

What we are known for is our focus on the whole child. We understand that every child learns differently, so we create intentional experiences that build confidence, independence, and a love for learning. Our daily structure includes educational activities, creative expression, social interaction, and routines that help children feel secure and supported.

What truly sets us apart is the level of connection we build with both children and their families. We believe childcare should be a partnership, so we make it a priority to keep parents involved, informed, and confident in the care their child is receiving. That trust and communication is something our families value deeply.

As a brand, I am most proud of the environment we’ve created , one that feels like a second home while still maintaining strong educational standards. We have built a reputation for being dependable, consistent, and genuinely invested in the success and well-being of every child.

I want readers to know that Miss Tee’s Childcare Academy is more than just a childcare service, we are were learning begins and love never ends.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Two of the most important qualities behind my success have been perseverance and resilience. Building a business, especially from the ground up without a financial safety net. It comes with many challenges, and there were times when things didn’t go as planned.

Perseverance allowed me to stay committed to my vision even when progress felt slow, while resilience helped me push through difficult seasons, learn from my mistakes, and keep moving forward. Instead of giving up during setbacks, I used those experiences as opportunities to grow and make better decisions.

Those qualities not only helped me build Miss Tee’s Childcare Academy, but they continue to shape how I lead, how I serve families, and how I show up every day for the children in my care.
